One of the best parts of being back on campus for me was hearing the laughter of our Explorers as they played RedLight/GreenLight with our Morning Break support crew. Students very quickly picked up on the new process for getting to and from the blacktop safely and efficiently.

3-8 Reopening School: First, thank you to all of our families, staff, and students for your collaboration this week reopening school for our K-2 Cohorts! The teamwork has made school possible, and we could see our students smiling through their masks.

Sacramento County has been reinstated into the Red Tier, which means that we will welcome back our students, 3-8th grade, using our Baseline Model, beginning Monday, March 22. The Baseline Model brings Cohort A on campus Monday & Tuesday, and Cohort B on campus Thursday and Friday, for those families who elected to return to school.

For all students, including those who are returning to campus and those who have elected full time distance learning, we are all switching to our new schedule, with a single lunch time, K-8. The schedule is outlined on Page 14 of the Return to School Guidebook

For all families who have elected full time distance learning, you will have another opportunity to consider returning to campus on April 26th, and we will send you that survey link as early as April 1st.

This is an exciting time, and will require our community to continue to work together. As we are about to publish the weekly, we are all hearing news about changing rules from the Center for Disease Control and the California Department of Public Health. We will continue to keep families informed if anything changes. Until then, let’s all practice all the procedures necessary to safely reopen school including: daily health checks, proper mask usage, social distancing, hand washing and respiratory hygiene. The more we are able to make these habits a routine, the more likely we will be to keep school open safely.

Food and DL Kit Distribution: Our Food Services and Distance Learning Kit Distribution will move to a new location this week to accommodate arrival and dismissal. Food and Distance Learning Kits will be inside the parking lot. Click HERE for a map. If you are picking up or dropping off a student, please stay to the right in the arrival/dismissal lane as usual. If you only need to pick up a meal or a kit, you can go around the arrival/dismissal lane and into the parking lot.

SDM Carline/Walking Update: Families, please be sure to set your preference.  If you are set as Car Line your pin number will not work for walking on that day. Click HERE for the School Dismissal Manager Video.

Trimester 2 Parent Survey: The Parent Survey is taken at the end of each trimester. Click HERE to answer six questions to rate your family’s experience at Westlake Charter School during the 2020-21 school year. Please complete the survey by March 22 at 4:00 PM.

Yearbook Pictures – Due 3/22: If your student did not get their school picture taken at the beginning of the school year, we still want to include them in our yearbook! This year we have the option to add yearbook photos from home. Please make sure your child wears their school uniform.  Click HERE to upload a picture by Monday, March 22nd. Enter your student’s school ID number (their lunch number), then just follow the prompt from there. If you need your student’s ID number, email [email protected]

BASE: During Level 3: Baseline, our BASE program will be available for students. BASE will not be a drop-in program, due to the need to ensure social distancing, families will be required to make reservations and pre-pay for BASE. On Distance Learning scheduled days 8:10am-3:00pm BASE will be $45/day and on in-classroom scheduled days 11:00am-3:00pm BASE will be $25/day.

  • Click HERE to make a BASE Reservation
  • Click HERE for the BASE Registration Packet
    • If you are not yet registered, please complete, scan and email the registration packet to [email protected]. You may also drop it off to a BASE staff member between 8:00am-2:00pm. Please call 916-567-5768 and someone will come out.
  • Please note: Reservations and payments must be made a week in advance in order to attend BASE during Level 3: Baseline. If you are interested in attending March 22nd-26th, please make your reservation and payment by March 15th at 5pm.

Seasonal Allergies: Our Return to Campus date coincides with an increase of seasonal allergies in Sacramento. Some seasonal allergy symptoms overlap with COVID-19 symptoms shown on page 9 of the Guidebook to Reopening. If your student has seasonal allergies, please reach out to your healthcare provider for documentation that the symptoms are typical of their underlying symptoms. Healthcare documentation is required to return to school after 24 hours without fever and improving symptoms.

High School Happenings:

There is so much happening with high school this week!  Our 9th-grade class is filling up! We are planning for our Freshman Signing Day next week! We are starting to collaborate with our High School Teaching Team!  We are ready for family volunteers to join the fun.  There will be many opportunities to volunteer in the coming months.

Our first call to action is for any family who has a talent for building. We will be working with our landscape architect and contractor to build tables, benches, and some fun architectural features for our high school’s outdoor space. If you build things or have a family member or friend who a builder, click HERE to complete our interest form.

In case you missed it:

A link to join and materials list (typical household items) will be sent the week before the event. Click HERE to sign up today. We hope to see you there!

International Festival: We want to learn about your culture at the 2021 International Festival! This virtual event will launch on Sunday, April 25th. Are you interested in sharing recipes, crafts, traditions or information about your culture? This can be a video, picture, recipe, dance or just about anything else. We want to make sure as many cultures as possible are represented! Kudos: Wow, what a week! None of this would have been possible without our entire community working together. Thank you to our staff for planning and implementing a safe return to campus. Thank you to our families for being flexible, supportive and prepared. We cannot wait for our 3rd-8th grade students to return next week. Keep up the great work, Westlake!
