Our second annual High School 101 Night was an engaging night for all with sessions on ‘High School at a Glance’ and ‘Dual Enrollment & Advanced Education’ to ‘Financial Aid’ and ‘Senior Year Timeline’.  There were options for everyone looking to learn more about WCHS and what we have to offer.

Congratulations to WCHS’ Jeanette Miksits and Ramon Paredes who participated in a six-month-long cohort experience with Silicon Schools Fund to explore the benefits, limits, and educational impacts of artificial intelligence.  Mrs. Miksits presented her learnings and impact over the last six months at the California Charter Schools Association conference during the session.

Friday evening’s Middle School glow dance was a blast!  Students enjoyed dancing, food, socializing, and more while connecting with friends, new and old.  Thank you to Mrs. Liechti, the Middle School Leadership students, WAVE, families, and staff who made this event possible!

Parent Survey: The Parent Survey is taken 3 times a year. CLICK HERE to answer six questions to rate your family’s experience at Westlake Charter School during the 2023-24 school year. The deadline is Friday, April 5th.

CAASPP Testing:  Our statewide testing window will take place between April 24th – May 31st for our 3rd-8th & 11th grade students.  CLICK HERE for our annual notification letter with more testing information.

K-8 Announcements

Community Giving – Used Book Drive: The Community Giving Middle School elective students are partnering with the Friends of the Sacramento Public Library.  From March 25th – April 5th, they will be accepting donations of undamaged, gently used books to be distributed to kids and organizations in need. Students may place books in the book bin in their grade level flex space, the front office, or Mrs. Hubbard’s classroom (G106).  If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Hubbard at [email protected].

K-8 Spring Picture Day: Spring picture day is Friday, April 5th.  All students will have free dress. Only students who have prepaid AND filled out the form will be sent to the photographer to have their picture taken. Forms were sent home on Friday, March 15th. CLICK HERE if you would like to have your student’s spring picture taken, please fill out the form above AND prepay online or send payment in the packet. All 8th grade students should dress to impress – pictures for promotion certificates will be taken that day.

Eighth Grade End-of-Year Events: As we step into trimester 3, Westlake is starting to plan for the big 8th grade events, such as the 8th grade dance, Santa Cruz field lesson, 8th grade breakfast, and promotion. Please CLICK HERE to express interest in helping with and/or chaperoning these events! In addition, be on the lookout for more end-of-year event information coming through your child’s Advisory teacher’s weekly newsletters!

9-12 Announcements

Dual Enrollment Information:

  • Dual Enrollment Registration Night: On Monday, March 25th students and families who are taking dual enrollment in the fall can drop in to the Commons at the high school campus from 4:00-6:00 pm  to get support completing their dual enrollment application for American River College.  Families who have students registered for dual enrollment will receive an email with more information.
  • Dual Enrollment Parent Information Nights: American River College hosts monthly Dual Enrollment Parent Information Nights on the fourth Wednesday of each month.  The next monthly event  is this Wednesday, March 27th from 6:00 – 7:00 PM on zoom. CLICK HERE for more information.

High School 101 Resources: We had great family participation for our High School 101 event last week.  Presenters covered the topics of 1) High School at a Glance 2) Dual Enrollment & Advanced Education 3) Financial Aid and 4) Senior Year Timeline.  CLICK HERE for the presentations from the evening.

WCHS ‘Hello Spring’ Dress Up Day – March 29th: Get ready to shake off those winter blues because our ‘Hello Spring’ Dress Up Day at WCHS is just around the corner!  Students can celebrate the arrival of warmer days and blooming flowers by dressing up in their  most vibrant and cheerful outfits on March 29th. Whether they’re rocking floral prints or pastel colors, students can show off their springtime spirit and spread some sunshine throughout the halls of our high school.

‘Hello Spring’ Dance – March 29th: Spring is in the air and what better way to celebrate than with our ‘Hello Spring’ Dance! On Friday, March 29th we’ll have our ‘Hello Spring’ Dance at the high school campus from 6-9pm.  This is an event for our WCHS 9th, 10th, & 11th grade students only; guests will not be permitted.  CLICK HERE for the flyer for the dance and CLICK HERE to volunteer or donate for this event.

Eleventh Grade College Field Lesson: We’re so excited to announce that the 11th grade field lesson will be a visit to Santa Cruz on Thursday and Friday, May 23rd and 24th.  This trip is similar to the trip our WCS 8th graders take and will include a tour of UC Santa Cruz, a visit to the boardwalk, and camping overnight at Sunset State Beach.  Although these dates seem far away, we are beginning to get all of the details finalized.  We will need chaperones so if you are interested in joining please CLICK HERE!  We’d love to have you join!

Science Night: THIS Wednesday, March 27th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, WAVE will host Sierra Nevada Journeys for our annual Science Night. Sierra Nevada Journeys is a premier outdoor science education non-profit serving Nevada and California and they’ll be providing science and STEM activities for our community.

International Festival:  Sign up to host a Cultural Booth at our 19th Annual International Festival on Saturday, April 27th!  As of right now we have only 7 booths signed up and we would love to see as many countries represented as possible. Cultural Booth Hosts may provide a small sampling of native cuisine, cultural artifacts, a children’s activity/game, and/or anything else you would like to demonstrate or display. The booth can be as simple or complex as you would like. We would love to have as many cultures represented as possible. If you are interested in hosting a cultural booth, representing your family’s culture and heritage you can reach out to [email protected].

Staff Appreciation: While we appreciate our staff everyday for taking care of and nurturing our children’s education, we get one week out of the school year to really show our gratitude. This year’s theme is “Staff Wellness” and we will decorate the staff lounge, bring breakfast, lunch, snacks, sweets and a special gift to show how much we appreciate all our Westlake staff does for our families. 2024-25 WAVE Board Elections: Are you interested in getting more involved with the Westlake Association of Volunteer Explorers (WAVE)?   Join the WAVE board and help us make the 2024-25 school year amazing! All board positions of President, Vice President of Parent Participation, Vice President of Business Affairs, Treasurer, and Secretary are coming up for election in May. Joining the WAVE Board is a great way to guide school culture and make the WCS community a wonderful place for all staff and families.
