The WCHS campus was buzzing last week with visitors from our middle school campus.  Eighth graders from our WCS middle school visited for Shadow Day and got a taste of what life is like at WCHS.  Our amazing student tour guides provided tours and information about academics and student life.

Kindergarten- 8th Grade Explorers wowed at this years Missoula Theater performance of Peter and Wendy.  They spent a long week rehearsing and performed two shows on Saturday to packed houses. Way to go Explorers and thank you to our WAVE partners who help make this possible.

Step into Spring Challenge: March 18th – 22nd  is Jibe’s Step into Spring Challenge which encourages students to walk, bike, or scoot to school.  The top three classes with the most trips will win a Spring Prize Pack!!  CLICK HERE for the flier.

Eighth Grade End-of-Year Events: As we step into trimester 3, Westlake is starting to plan for the big 8th grade events, such as the 8th grade dance, Santa Cruz field lesson, 8th grade breakfast, and promotion. 9-12 Announcements

High School 101 Night: Our annual High School 101 Night will be taking place Wednesday, March 20th from 5:00 – 6:30 PM.  This event is for all current high school families and our future WCHS families. It will be held on our High School campus with presentations from our counseling team. The topics covered at this event will be:

  • High School at a Glance
  • Dual Enrollment & Advanced Education
  • Financial Aid
  • Senior Year Timeline

Dual Enrollment Registration Night: On Monday, March 25th students and families who are taking dual enrollment in the fall can drop in to the Commons at the high school campus from 4:00-6:00 pm  to get support completing their dual enrollment application for American River College.  Families who have students registered for dual enrollment will receive an email with more information. 

WCHS ‘Hello Spring’ Dress Up Day, March 29th: Get ready to shake off those winter blues because our ‘Hello Spring’ Dress Up Day at WCHS is just around the corner!  Students can celebrate the arrival of warmer days and blooming flowers by dressing up in their  most vibrant and cheerful outfits on March 29th. Whether they’re rocking floral prints or pastel colors, students can show off their springtime spirit and spread some sunshine throughout the halls of our high school.

‘Hello Spring’ Dance, March 29th: Spring is in the air and what better way to celebrate than with our ‘Hello Spring’ Dance! On Friday, March 29th we’ll have our ‘Hello Spring’ Dance at the high school campus from 6-9pm.  This is an event for our WCHS 9th, 10th, & 11th grade students only; guests will not be permitted.  CLICK HERE for the flyer for the dance and CLICK HERE to volunteer or donate for this event.

Save the Date – Junior Prom: Attention all 11th grade students and families! Mark your calendars for a big night of the year – Prom! Prom will take place on Saturday, May 4th.  This evening promises to be an unforgettable celebration filled with music, dancing, and memories with friends. Stay tuned for more details and ticket information coming soon. 

2023-24 WCHS Yearbook: The 2023-24 WCHS Yearbooks are available for purchase now!  Students and families can also add on a half-page ad or a Shout-out Message for a student. CLICK HERE to purchase your yearbook by April 26th, 2024.

Science Night: On Wednesday, March 27th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, WAVE will host Sierra Nevada Journeys for our annual Science Night. Sierra Nevada Journeys is a premier outdoor science education non-profit serving Nevada and California and they’ll be providing science and STEM activities for our community.

International Festival:  Sign up to host a Cultural Booth at our 19th Annual International Festival on Saturday, April 27th!  As of right now we have only 7 booths signed up and we would love to see as many countries represented as possible. Cultural Booth Hosts may provide a small sampling of native cuisine, cultural artifacts, a children’s activity/game, and/or anything else you would like to demonstrate or display. The booth can be as simple or complex as you would like. We would love to have as many cultures represented as possible. If you are interested in hosting a cultural booth, representing your family’s culture and  heritage you can reach out to [email protected].

Staff Appreciation: While we appreciate our staff everyday for taking care of and nurturing our children’s education, we get one week out of the school year to really show our gratitude. This year’s theme is “Staff Wellness” and we will decorate the staff lounge, bring breakfast, lunch, snacks, sweets and a special gift to show how much we appreciate all our Westlake staff does for our families. 2024-25 WAVE Board Elections: Are you interested in getting more involved with the Westlake Association of Volunteer Explorers (WAVE)?   Join the WAVE board and help us make the 2024-25 school year amazing! All board positions of President, Vice President of Parent Participation, Vice President of Business Affairs, Treasurer, and Secretary are coming up for election in May. Joining the WAVE Board is a great way to guide school culture and make the WCS community a wonderful place for all staff and families.
