Our 7th grade Humanities team has been organizing reading conferences with students where teachers and students connect about books and set reading goals each week. In addition to the reading conference, teachers then work to ensure students have books accessible to them including finding them in their personal or school library and having them available for pickup for families. This is a great collaboration to ensure students are continuing to do their independent reading.

Reading is such an important part of early literacy skill development! The kindergarten team has launched a lending library to get books into the homes of all our students.

Guidebook to Reopening: Click HERE to read our Guidebook to Reopening. The guidebook includes overviews of processes and protocols we will use when we are able to safely return to campus, as well as a brief update about what it means that Sacramento County is now in the Purple Tier.

  • As we publish this reopening guideline, our county has just been escalated to the highest and most restrictive “purple” or “Widespread” tier by the California Department of Public Health. This new status makes schools in Sacramento ineligible for reopening. Eligibility can be reinstated only after the county has been in the “red” or “Significant” tier for at least two consecutive school weeks. Therefore, we will continue to monitor the information provided by public health officials to determine when we are eligible to consider reopening.
  • The plans included in this handbook demonstrate our commitment and readiness to reopening when it is deemed safe to do so by our public health officials.

Kudos: The 13th Annual Olympic Triathlon has come to an end and we are incredibly grateful for the Westlake Charter School community. Over the past several weeks parent volunteers, specialty teachers, and office staff came together to plan this event. Teachers made flags with their students, donors supported our programs, and families shared their love of our school. On Event Day families participated, competed, and celebrated our fantastic specialty programs. We are grateful for each and every staff member, parent, student, and donor. We truly are better together!
