Announcements

Cold and Flu Season Precautions: Please keep in mind some steps to help avoid the spread of infection:

  • If your student is sick or exhibiting contagious symptoms such as fever, coughing, or sneezing, please keep them home from school to avoid spreading illness. Your student must be fever-free, without the use of fever-reducing medications, for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Remind your student and others in your home,  that hands should be washed often (i.e., before/after eating, before/after using the restroom) with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose. Dispose of tissue immediately and wash hands.

Play Structure and Field: Our play structure is temporarily closed for maintenance. We anticipate it being back in operation next week. As a reminder, our field will reopen after Spring Break with the drainage and rough patches repaired.

Parents Go To School Night – February 12th: This year, our Parents Go to School Night will be a fun combination of parent learning and family games. We will kick off the event with a Keynote from Jess Wilson on developing protective factors in your home. Parents will then head off to an informational session of their choice led by one of our amazing staff members.  Click HERE to see the list of workshops that are being offered this year!  Parents and their students will meet up in the Cafeteria to teach their family a math game that can be played at home. BASE will be offered to WCS students at no charge for the evening. Click HERE to RSVP for BASE.

Food Drive Extended to This Wednesday! It’s not too late to finish out the Great Kindness Challenge. Bring canned foods to the front office by Wednesday, February 5th to donate to Joey’s Food Locker.

Black History Month: Westlake Charter School will celebrate Black History Month during the month of February with classroom activities and highlights at Morning Line Up.

After School Lockdown/Evacuation Drill: On Tuesday, February 4th, we will be having an after-school lockdown and evacuation drill at 4:20. If you are on campus to pick up your child from BASE or After-School Live, please plan on participating in the drills with us. Also, please note that students will not be released until the drills are over, about 4:35. Email Jen Holbrook ([email protected]) or [email protected] with questions or concerns.

WAVE: Don’t forget to click the WAVE tab for more details on; WCS Spirit Store, WAVE Board meeting, and Boot Buck Store.

Spirit Store: The Spirit Store is open now! Click HERE to take a look at the selection of shirts, hats, sweatshirts and more. The store closes on February 9th and we expect items to be sent home during the last week of February. Do not delay, this is the last sale of the year!

WAVE Meeting: Our monthly WAVE meeting is coming up on Thursday February 6th. We will meet in the Media Center (Library) at 6:30pm to discuss upcoming events, hear from Mrs. Battin and learn about ways to get involved at Westlake Charter School. These meetings are also a fantastic opportunity to meet other Explorer families and learn more about WAVE.

Boot Bucks Store: The next Boot Bucks Store for 3-8th graders is this Thursday, February 6th during lunch recess. Please remind your students to bring their trip scanner card or their number with them. Students earn boot bucks by walking, biking or scooting to school. They get scanned at the Maybrook gate and earn prizes for participating. Applications for a new or replacement card are available in the front office.

Kudos: Thank you to every family who came out to Ono Hawaiian BBQ for a family night out fundraiser last week. Special thanks to Cristi Rodda for continuing to organize these events to help raise money for WAVE. These types of fundraisers make our community events, which are free to all families, possible throughout the year. Save the Date for the next family night out fundraiser on 2/25 at Pizza Guys!
