To celebrate the month of #Gratitude we would like to give a huge shout out to our WAVE team for all that they do for our Explorer community.

Our 3rd grade explorers participated in the Hour of Code. They did everything from using block coding guide a robot through a maze, to solving mathematical equations to reveal a mystery picture.

Talent Show Auditions:  Click HERE to sign up to audition for our Talent Show by December 20th. Students will be notified of audition time slots on January 11th. Please note that we will not have group dance performances this year, instead will be showcasing our After School Enrichment programs with short performances. The Talent Show will take place on Friday, February 15th at 6:00 PM

Winter Break: School will be closed Friday, December 21st to Friday, January 4th. Our BASE program will be open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on December 21st and January 2nd to 4th. As a reminder, Thursday, December 20th is a full day of school, not an early release date.

Candy Grams: Candy grams will be on sale December 11th, 12th, 13th after school. We are asking for a  $.25 donation for each and will be delivered on December 18th. All proceeds will be donated to Camp Fire victims.

NUSD Holiday Toy Drive: We are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children of any age (to grade 12). Please bring toys by December 19th to the collection box in the office. Joey’s Food Locker will distribute toys to Natomas families who need help this holiday season.

Walk to School Prize Day: The K-2 grade prize day is right around the corner! Kids who have been participating in Jibe’s walk to school programs can spend those hard earned boot bucks on Prize Day, December 13th. All they have to do is bring their trip scanners to their last recess of the day to redeem boot bucks for prizes. If your child does not have a trip scanner or you would like more information about the walk to school programs Westlake offers, please contact Kristyn Escobedo at [email protected]. Don’t forget to remind your student!

Lottery Application Period: Our enrollment period for the 2019-20 Lottery is December 3, 2018 to January 31, 2019. The application process is digital this year. Visit joinwestlake.com to complete the application starting December 3rd. Please share this information with friends and family who are interested in attending Westlake Charter School. Current students do not need to fill out an application to continue their enrollment at WCS; however, siblings do need to fill out lottery applications to attend.

Parents Go To School Night – January 30th: Our annual Parent’s Go to School Night will be on Wednesday, January 30th from 5:30-8:00 PM Our fantastic staff will be presenting on various topics during our annual Parent’s Go to School Night. Save the date to come learn about everything from Math and ELA to Social Emotional Skills. This your chance to learn more about how your student is learning at Westlake Charter & ways to help support them at home.

Winter Enrichment Classes – Sign Up Today: Our winter session of AS Live: Enrichment will start Monday, January 7. Click HERE to see class offerings, prices, and links to sign up. Lost and Found: Our lost and found is overflowing with jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles and more! Please check for any missing items by Thursday, December 20th. All unclaimed items will be donated over Winter Break.

Olympic Triathlon: The 2018 Olympic Triathlon has concluded and all we can say is “thank you.” Thank you to everyone who contributed via donation, fundraising and volunteering, thank you. We are truly better together and the past 6 weeks is a great of example of how amazing this community really is. Together we raised over $55,000 for Westlake Charter School and this would not be possible without the support of parents, students, staff and community. We will announce our class and individual winners next week.

Movie Night: Our annual Movie Night has been rescheduled to Friday, December 14th at 5:30pm. We will be watching Incredibles 2 and free popcorn and water will be available! Pizza will also be available for $1 per slice in the cafeteria from 5-6pm (or until sold out).

Immediately following the movie, Santa will be stopping by Valley Oak Park at 7:45pm as he makes his way around Natomas! We need help to make this night possible. Please sign up to help at https://goo.gl/v5SeMR. We hope to see you there!

My Princess and Me Dance: Save the date for the 7th Annual My Princess and Me Dance on February 2, 2018. Tickets sales begin soon so be on the lookout for more information.

Rubio’s Family Night Out: Please join us on December 19th from 4:30-8:30pm at Rubio’s located at 3551 Truxel Road for another Family Night Out Fundraiser. They will be giving 50% of the pre-tax sales back to WCS! We hope to see you there!

Kudos: Thank you to each and every volunteer who joined us for the 2018 Olympic Triathlon Event! Despite the rain, the students had an amazing day playing Spanish games, creating kindness rocks and challenging themselves with PE activities. Huge thanks to Ona Saras, Gina Brookman, Narkisha Woodard, Leah Jackson, Aileen Go Policarpio and Abigail Grimaldi for making this day possible. This day was a perfect example of how school and community collaborate!
