Chili Cook Off
Our 4th Annual Chili Cook Off was a blast! It was an incredible community event. It was amazing to see so many families and staff out together enjoying the evening.

Announcements

Parents Go To School Night: We hope to see everyone this Wednesday night at our Parents Go To School Night Event. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn tips and tricks for helping our students succeed from our very own WCS Explorer Teachers. Come on out, enjoy dinner from the Masa Taco Truck and engage in an evening of learning. Click HERE to see the schedule and sessions. BASE will be available, so click HERE to sign up!

Love and Logic: We are offering the Love and Logic Parenting Class again this Fall. Check out the Love and Logic session during Parents Go To School Night to get a glimpse of the five-week class that begins October 25th.  Click HERE for details and registration.

Core Value: Welcome to the month of Respect! Each month at WCS, we focus on one of our core values. During the month of Respect, we have been talking about how we may show respect personally, academically, within the community and as a digital citizen. We’ll be posting videos each week, so be sure to watch and then discuss the core values at the dinner table.

Clubs Launch: Westlake’s Fall 2016 After School Club program is finally here! There are some fantastic new Clubs for your student to join and wonderful volunteers who are ready to engage your student! Click here to see the flyer. Applications to participate in a Club are due by October 3rd at 5:00pm.

Fall Break: Fall break is coming up on October 3rd- 7th. BASE will be open from 7:00am- 6:00pm.  Click here to see the 2016-17 Academic Calendar to plan your family vacations during one of our scheduled breaks.

Natomas 5K: Want to help raise money for our school? The Natomas 5K is being held on Saturday, October 1st. For more details on how to register for this event, click here.

Math Monday: Please check here each week for the link to Math Monday. Come out to the lineup on Monday mornings to celebrate math with us.

Parking Lot: At Westlake Charter School, we are constantly looking for ways to improve student safety. The launch of our Ready, Set, Go dismissal campaign addressed student safety at the end of the day.  But families, we need your help in making drop off and dismissal even safer.  As you drive on campus, please make sure that you are going above and beyond to follow all traffic laws.  We have seen how rushing or not obeying traffic laws can cause accidents and potential student safety issues.  Please make sure you are doing your part to keep our Explorer students as safe as possible.

Walktober: We will officially be kicking off Walktober the week of October 10th . Look for the WALKTOBER flyer and tracking form coming home in student’s backpack. Have your student turn in your completed tracking sheets on October 17th,  October 24th and November 1st and the number of times your student walked will determine what prizes they earn.  The class with the most completed tracking sheets will win a class prize.  Walking School bus on Wednesday and Friday is a great way to add up the Walktober walking trips.

Progress Reports: Progress Reports came home Friday, September 23rd with your student. Please ask your student for an envelope that has a few important documents in it. You will find your student’s grade report, a reflection sheet, and a progress report cover sheet. Please sign and return the reflection sheet and cover sheet (both on yellow paper) by Tuesday, September 27th. Please take the time to review your student’s progress so far this trimester. This is a snapshot of your student’s progress, and as you know, grades will change quickly. Please check Infinite Campus for the most up-to-date information. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your student’s teacher.

Dance: Our 6th-8th grade students, will have a Fall dance on Friday, September 30th from 3:00-4:00pm.  If you would like to donate any refreshments for this event, please send them in on Friday morning with your student and drop them off in the front office. If you chose to send in any items to share, please be sure they are nut free.

Electives: 6th-8th grade students will begin their next set of electives on Monday, September 26th.
