Flyby Click here to to view a fly-over video our our NEW CAMPUS! The architects have produced this 3D model so that we may begin to envision our new campus.
There is nothing quite like the energy of students engaged in outdoor science exploration.  That energy has been pulsing throughout the Del Paso campus as Mrs. Miksits and Mrs. Martin have led students through an outdoor unit of study, which culminated with a walking field lesson to Fisherman’s Lake. 20151030_140015

For the Whole School

Google Expedition:  Westlake Charter Students are Virtually Traveling the Globe on a Google Expedition. This Tuesday, a team from Google will arrive at Westlake Charter School to help our 1st-4th Grade Explorers embark on a virtual field trip!  Expeditions is a new product that allows teachers to take their classes on virtual field trips, immersing students in experiences that bring abstract concepts to life and giving students a deeper understanding of the world beyond the classroom. While nothing replaces hopping on the bus for a field lesson, Expeditions provide an unparalleled opportunity for supplemental learning. Click here to see some of the possibilities as schools who are lucky enough to have launched Expeditions have been able to take virtual field trips to the bottom of the sea, to the Pyramids of Egypt and to the surface of Mars! Let’s Explore!

Veterans Day: Westlake Charter School would like to take a moment to celebrate our Veterans. The service you have provided to this great country is recognized and appreciated. Our children are lucky to be raised in a country that provides every student an equal opportunity to grow and learn in places like Westlake Charter School, and these freedoms have been granted through the dedication of people like you. Thank you, Veterans.

Why Conferences are Important to Westlake: What makes Westlake unique? As a charter school, this is an essential question. What is it that we do differently that ensures our students are better served than they would be in a traditional public school? Westlake personalizes education for our students and we believe that meeting with parents regularly is a part of our commitment to that personalization. Our staff tries to remember that these conferences should be as much about listening as they are about speaking. We learn so much from our partners in education – parents are a child’s first teacher, and Westlake is proud to make such a strong commitment to this collaboration. Thank you all for your commitment to this work.

For Del Paso

Parking Lot: Our Parking Lot Team is continuing to look at ways we can make the parking lot  safe and efficient for the Westlake Charter community.  One thing that everyone could do to help make the parking lot run more smoothly is to only park in the correctly designated spots. If you are a visitor/volunteer on campus, the unmarked parking spots are the spaces that are available to you.  All staff spots are reserved for staff members who, even if their car is not yet there, still need their spot to remain available and open. Our staff thanks you for your help and consideration in this matter as it ensures the staff is able to be where they need to be for students.

For Pebblewood

Electives:  Your middle school student will choose their new electives for the 2nd Trimester this week during Advisory.  A new elective we are excited to launch this trimester is Leadership.  Our Campus Culture director, Mr. Poseley will lead this elective. If your student is interested in being involved in student leadership, this is the class for them!  They will need to fill out an application to join this great class. New electives will begin the week after Thanksgiving break.

End of the Trimester Conferences:  We are looking forward to seeing 100% of our families during conference week.  As a reminder, all students and families should plan to attend their conference. Part of the conference will be led by your student talking about their growth this trimester and goals for next trimester! Please click here to sign up for your conference time. All conferences will be held with homeroom or advisory teachers, so please remember to sign up under that teacher.  If you would like to meet with any other teacher during conference week, please reach out to your advisory or homeroom teacher.
