Announcements:

For the Whole School

Explorit Science Night: CLICK HERE for details about our evening of hands-on science exploration for all our families! Bring your students and meet us in the Pebblewood cafeteria, Wednesday night at 6:30PM for an evening of exploration! Thank you to our WAVE Parent Team for organizing this incredible night!

Olympic Triathlon: Our 8th annual Westlake Charter Olympic Triathlon is officially underway! Wednesday was our first day of donation collections on the Del Paso campus and our students brought in just over $1,000 towards our goal of $60,000.

The Olympic Triathlon is not just about fundraising.  It’s also about celebrating our three specialties of art, Spanish and PE.  On Friday, November 13th our students will participate in a special day of learning on the Olympic Triathlon Event Day.  This event day is completely staffed and planned by our parent volunteers.  This means, we need YOUR help.  It’s really a great day for everyone involved and we can’t do it without your help!  Just click here to sign-up.

KCRA Kids Can Food Drive: We are collecting non-perishable food items for the KCRA Kids Can Food Drive through November 6th.  We will be donating all of our food items to Joey’s Food Locker, which goes directly to families who reside in the Natomas Unified School District.

Candy At School: After this weekend’s activities many of your cupboards are probably bursting at the seams with sweet treats.  Please remember to send your student to school with healthy snacks as candy is not allowed. The Candy Buy Back program at Children’s Choice Dental is a good option for excess candy.

For Del Paso

Morning Line Up:  Every morning, our entire student body gathers to start the day, from 8:15-8:20AM on the blacktop. This time of day is called “Morning Line Up.”   Each day of the week Morning Line Up has a different focus.

  • Monday is Math Monday: Students complete the Math Monday form, found HERE, over the weekend, and then click the submit button. On Monday Morning, one student will be randomly selected from each grade level, and those students receive a prize for their correct answer.
  • Tuesday is Think about Tuesday: Students are asked to reflect on the Core Value of the Month at the start of Morning Line Up.  A few students are called to the front to share their first-hand observations of the Core Values demonstrated by their peers.
  • Wednesday is Watch it Wednesday:  Each Wednesday students are celebrated by teachers and staff in a video that is shown to the entire school.  Students watch these videos with their class after the pledge of allegiance and the “Walking Wednesday” walkers count.
  • Thursday is Talent Thursday: Students submit Talent Thursday forms to the office.  Students can choose to share a joke, an interesting fact, a song, or a dance.
  • Friday is Focus Friday:  All Morning Line Up participants focus on our three Morning Line Up expectations:  listening actively, facing forward, and voices off. On Friday, there is often a challenge for the entire student body to try to achieve.

Morning Line Up is also the time when we celebrate students who have earned blue dots through our Let’s Explore the Playground campaign.  As you look through the theme of each day of Morning Line-up, it becomes clear that the purpose and focus of this time is to start the day celebrating students.  We invite all members of our community to come out to Morning Line Up and take part in this celebration each day.

Conferences: The end of the trimester is quickly approaching, which means it is time for End of Trimester Conferences.  Every family is expected to access the Canyon Creek online scheduler through the WCS website.  By following the directions found here, families can access their teacher’s schedule for conference week, November 17th-21st, and sign up for a conference.  Conferences are an important part of what we do at Westlake. We look forward to sitting down with every family to celebrate their students growth this trimester and begin to set goals for the 2nd trimester.

For Pebblewood

Conferences: End of the trimester conferences are quickly approaching!  Conferences will be held the week of November 16th-20th.  This year, students in 6th-8th grade will meet with their advisory teacher during conferences.  We are shooting for 100% participation during conferences.  This weekend, you can begin signing up for your conference time by going to Canyon Creek, our online scheduler, by clicking this link.  If you would like to meet with any other teacher besides your advisory teacher, please email your advisory teacher directly and they will work with you to coordinate with your child’s other teacher to attend part of your conference.  You should plan to attend the conference with your student.  A portion of the conference will be led by your student.  They will be preparing for the student-led part of their conference during advisory/homeroom classes.  We look forward to meeting with all families to celebrate your student’s growth this trimester.
