Celebrations:

Our students on both campuses spent a day learning about “Holidays Around the World” and completing creative projects to represent the holidays.  This is one of our Westlake traditions that exemplify our pillar “Our place in a Global World.”    Holidays1 Holidays2
BandN2 Explorer staff and families joined together at Barnes and Noble family night.  Whether it was making a craft, listening to a story, buying gifts, or drinking coffee, fun was had by all who came!
Our Glee Club, led by Rachel Songer, brought us “December ‘Round the World” in their recital.  The Glee Club helped us to discover the special preparations for the Chinese New Year; the German St. Nicholas Day tradition of a pickle hidden in the Tannenbaum; the seven principles of Kwanzaa from African ancestors; the miracle and lights of Jewish Hanukkah; the festive atmosphere of Mexico’s Las Posadas; and Christmas American-style!  Another amazing example of learning “Our Place in a Global World.” Glee
ChildrensChoice During morning line up at Del Paso, Children’s Choice Dental presented us with a check for being the school who turned in the most candy after Halloween!  Thank you, Children’s Choice, and thank you Explorer families for participating in the Candy Buy Back program!
During the Olympic Triathlon closing ceremonies this year, we celebrated raising over $55,908 to help support a 21st century learning environment on our future campus!  Thank you to each and every Explorer who helped us with such a fun, and successful Olympic Triathlon! OT1 OT2
Staff Our entire staff had a chance to get together before break and celebrate at the Westlake Winter Wonderland!  Click HERE for a slideshow from the photo booth!

Announcements:

For the Whole School

Welcome Back: Families, we hope that each of you had a restful winter break and are ready to continue Exploring in 2016! Between the incredible plans our teachers have designed for the coming months and the exciting calendar that our WAVE parent team have prepared, it looks like the second half of the year will be just as amazing as the first. Thank you for continuing to stay connected to our school, reading our weekly posts and checking in with our team whenever you have thoughts, questions or concerns by emailing [email protected].

Core Value for the Month of January: Inquisitive. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter, also, check our weekly blog post to view our videos regarding the core value of the month. We hope these conversations at school can lead to some great dinner table talk at home.

Future Transportation Survey: As we look ahead to the construction of our new K-8 campus, we’re asking our families to take this survey so we can gather information on how our Westlake families plan to get to/from our new campus.  The survey should take less than 2 minutes, and we’d appreciate you taking a moment out of your busy day to help!  Thank you!

For Del Paso:

Math Monday: Remember to take a moment to solve this week’s  Math Monday problem with your student.  NEW to the form are the Common Core standards associated with the question of your student’s grade level!

For Pebblewood:

Infinite Campus Update: Starting this week, teachers will be updating and posting grades to Infinite Campus each Friday. As a family, you can now expect to see up-to-date grades each week.  This will ensure that Infinite Campus is directly reflecting your student’s progress throughout the trimester.  Families, please remember to reach out to your child’s teachers if you have any questions or concerns regarding grades.
