Our first grade Explorers have used observations of the sun, moon, and stars to describe predictable patterns. To reinforce concepts learned in the classroom, Explorers visited the Planetarium at California State University of Sacramento and had a stellar time!

With the launch of our new semester has come the current session of honors seminars at WCHS.   Starting in tenth grade, our WCHS students can opt in to honors courses providing them with increased rigor and workload.

Talent Show: You are invited! Join us in the K-8 gymnasium on Friday, February 16th @ 6:00 PM for our K-12 Talent Show! Come show your WCS spirit by supporting our performers! Don’t miss the amazing staff dance! The event is free to attend.

Presidents Week: Both campuses and BASE will be closed for Presidents Week  Monday February 19th through Friday, February 23rd. We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, February 26th.

K-8 Announcements

After School Live – MS Volleyball: Sign-ups for our middle school volleyball program have ended and teams have been formed. An email was sent to families of participating Explorers with the schedule of practice and game dates.  If you haven’t received the email, please reach out to [email protected].

Pedestrian Safety Campaign Launch: Mark your calendars! From February 26th – March 8th, WCS will be launching a Pedestrian Safety Campaign based on data collected in the neighborhood that was analyzed by our amazing parent and community partners.

  • The first week of the rollout will focus on reteaching our students about safely crossing at the crosswalks and not exiting a vehicle before being in a legal parking spot. 
  • The second week will focus on teaching our families and community members and celebrating those who are following safety protocols. 

We need YOU! Join Mrs. Ghalambor in planning the launch and recruiting volunteers this Wednesday, February 7th from 5:00 – 6:00 PM in the K-8 Library.

9-12 Announcements

Upcoming Home Athletics:

  • Thursday,  February 8th: Home – Boys JV, Girls Varsity, & Boys Varsity Basketball vs. John Adams Academy, El Dorado Hills, 4:30 PM, 6:00 PM, and 7:30 PM

Ninth Grade Field Lesson to Sonoma State: Our ninth grade students will be exploring the Sonoma State campus on Monday, February 5th.  Students will have a chance to tour the campus, learn about the CSU application requirements and experience eating in the dining hall.  Student do need to complete their permission slip and turn them in to participate.

Boys Volleyball and Girls Soccer Tryouts: We’ll be launching our Boys Volleyball and Girls Soccer season with tryouts THIS WEEK.  Boys Volleyball tryout will take place on Tuesday, February 6th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM and Friday, February 9th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM.  Soccer tryouts will take place on Wednesday, February 7th and Friday, February 9th from 4:30-6:00 PM. Tryouts for both teams will take place at our K-8 campus at 2680 Mabry Drive.  Students must have current athletic paperwork and valid sports physicals submitted online through www.HomeCampus.com prior to participating in team tryouts. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): Our 11th grade students will have the opportunity to take the SAT here on campus during the school day on Wednesday, March 13th.  Students must opt-in to participate in testing.  CLICK HERE for the form to opt in if you would like your 11th grader to take the SAT on March 13th.

NASA Hunch Judging:  We are excited that WCHS will be hosting a preliminary round of the NASA Hunch Culinary Challenge.  The competition will take place in WCHS’s Commons on Wednesday, February 28th from 4:30 – 5:30 PM.  Do you or someone you know have a culinary background?  Would you be interested in being a judge for this event?  Please reach out to Lila McIver at [email protected] to express your interest in being a NASA Hunch Judge.

International Festival: Save the date for our 19th Annual International Festival on Saturday, April 27th! Planning is already under way and we need volunteers to help with the planning, setup, event day fun, clean up, and, the highlight of our International Festival: The Cultural Booths hosted by our very own WCS families. We are in need of booth hosts to make this event a success!

  • Cultural Booth Hosts may provide a small sampling of native cuisine, cultural artifacts, a children’s activity/game and/or anything else you would like to demonstrate or display. The booth can be as simple or complex as you would like. We would love to have as many cultures represented as possible. If you are interested in hosting a cultural booth, representing your family’s culture and  heritage you can reach out to [email protected].

Staff Appreciation: While we appreciate our staff everyday for taking care of and nurturing our children’s education, we take one week out of the school year to really show our gratitude. We decorate the staff lounge and bring breakfast, lunch, snacks, sweets and a special gift to show how much we appreciate all our Westlake staff does for our families. If you are interested in helping to decorate or setting up the meals and treats for our staff, please reach out to [email protected]. 

2024-25 WAVE Board Elections: Are you interested in getting more involved with the Westlake Association of Volunteer Explorers (WAVE)?   Join the WAVE board and help us make the 2024-25 school year amazing! All board positions of President, Vice President of Parent Participation, Vice President of Business Affairs, Treasurer, and Secretary are coming up for election in May. Joining the WAVE Board is a great way to guide school culture and make the WCS community a wonderful place for all staff and families.
