Great news, Explorer Families! The City of Sacramento is working on extending Club Center Drive, connecting Mabry Drive and East Commerce Way. This will help to improve the commute to WCS for many of our families.

K-12 Announcements

Westlake Weekly Podcast: CLICK HERE for this week’s Westlake Weekly Podcast.

Labor Day: Westlake Charter School and our BASE program will be closed on Monday, September 4th for Labor Day.

Classroom Ambassadors: We are looking for one or two family members from each K-5 class and Middle & High School Advisory class to act as a liaison between the school and families. Ambassadors will help in ensuring important information gets to every family  and help volunteer needs get met. CLICK HERE to sign up.

Core Value of the Month: The core value for the month of September is Respect.  Teachers will share the Core Value of the Month information with their class during Morning Meeting or Advisory. Throughout the month of September, we will celebrate students who demonstrate #WCSRespect.

Suicide Prevention: September is Suicide Prevention Month. Throughout this month, our counseling staff will launch our suicide prevention week of activities for our middle and high school Explorers. Grades 6th – 11th will have lunch activities as well as visits from the counseling team during their Advisory periods. Our counselors and teachers recognize the sensitive nature of the topic of suicide and we are glad to have the opportunity to inform and educate our students so that they are safe.  If you have questions or concerns about your student, please contact our Director of Student Support Services, Kevin Simas, at [email protected].

Olympic Triathlon: The 16th Annual Westlake Charter School Olympic Triathlon is under way! This is not only our biggest fundraiser of the year, but an event to showcase what makes our school unique. We raise funds to celebrate and support our Enriched Educational Opportunities which includes specialities at our K-8, athletics, clubs, and activities. Ask your student what they love about these incredible opportunities at Westlake and proudly reach out to family, friends, and community members for support.

  • You can get started fundraising now! CLICK HERE to set up a family donation page. You can customize it with your student’s name, a photo, and donation goal. It is easy to quickly request sponsors via email or text explaining why WCS is amazing and how they can help us meet our goal this year.
  • You can also drop off donations in person:
    • K-8 campus – Wednesdays at drop-off: 9/6, 9/13, 9/20, 9/27
    • HS campus – Tuesdays at drop-off: 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26

Enrichment sign-ups: Families, we had such positive feedback from those requesting more information on our extended learning opportunities, that we’ll be providing information in the Weekly for all of our families.  Our newest update: Fall Explorer Enrichment programs are starting soon! Middle School Explorer Athletics: HOOPS are here! All 6th, 7th, and 8th Explorers are invited to come play basketball! The season starts the week of September 5th. Athlete packets, including a doctor’s physical clearance, are required for participation.

Learning Lab: We will launch the Learning Lab for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students beginning on September 11th.  The Learning Lab will be staffed by an instructional aides to assist Middle School students with their classwork and homework.  Families  can sign up their Middle School student(s) by using School Dismissal Manager.  The Learning Lab will be open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:15 – 3:45 PM.

Back to School Night Follow Up: Thank you to all who joined us for Back to School Night at WCHS last week.  In case you weren’t able to make it or would like to review the information from the evening, CLICK HERE for all the Back to School Night presentations.

Homecoming Dance  and Guest Passes: Get ready for Westlake Charter High School’s annual homecoming celebration.  Homecoming week will take place from September 18th – 23rd. This year’s celebrations will consist of daily dress up days, a Friday rally, and our homecoming dance on Saturday, September 23rd.  Note these upcoming dates:

  • September 5th – 14th: Guest pass applications accepted
  • September 11th – September 21st: Homecoming dance ticket sales

Learning Lab: Our high school Learning Lab is open.  If your student needs additional assistance with work in any class, the Learning Lab is staffed by an instructional aide and is open at lunch every day and from 3:45 – 4:15 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  No sign ups are necessary.  Students just need to show up to receive help.

Chromebook Device Home Plan: Your student has checked out their Chromebook device for the year. This is an educational tool your student will use every day for class work during school and homework at home. In order for your student to be successful, they will need to be responsible for the care and maintenance of their device. Examples of care and maintenance are: 

  • Designate a charging location at home so that the Chromebook can be charged each night
  • Bring the charged Chromebook to school as a part of their daily morning routine
  • Have a place to work on their Chromebook that is free from food and liquids

Food Truck Friday:  We are excited about our first Food Truck Friday of the school year which will take place on Friday, September 15th.  During lunch on this day, students may choose to purchase lunch from the food trucks. Our regular lunch offerings will be available as well.

  • September 15th: Bingo Night – Add bingo night to your calendar! This is a free community event for our families. Come join us for bingo, some snacks, and fun for the whole family! CLICK HERE to volunteer.
  • September 22nd: Middle School Dance – Our Middle School students are getting excited for their first dance of the year. CLICK HERE to donate supplies and/or volunteer to chaperone. 
  • September 29th: Olympic Triathlon – Our explorers will participate in a fun day of activities highlighting our amazing specialty classes: Spanish, Art, and P.E. This event is completely staffed and planned by our parent volunteers and supported by our amazing staff. We need your help to make sure this event is successful. Kudos: Thank you teachers and staff for a wonderful back to school night. The presentations were well put together and the rooms are designed so thoughtfully. As  parents, we want to give our deepest gratitude to the people who dedicate so much time and energy into helping our children grow.  We’re sure we speak for other parents when we say we are honored to have our children be a part of such a strong educational community, full of such amazing people.
