Staff Appreciation Form: Explorer staff, it is that time of year when we take a moment to appreciate each staff member for all they do at Westlake Charter. WAVE Coffee Talk: Join us on Tuesday, April 25th at 6PM for our WAVE Coffee Talk at the Westlake Charter High School campus,  4400 East Commerce Way,  Sacramento, CA 95834. We’ll get the conversation started at 6PM.  We will have two special guests at this Coffee Talk.  Come out to meet  our new High School Assistant Principal Capricia Williams and our new Coordinator of Special Education Katie Davis.

College Week: As we grow  into a K-12, it is important to talk to our students about college and career. Our K-8 Campus just celebrated college week last week and our high school will celebrate this week from  April 24-28.  K-8 counselors have created three lessons with activities to share during morning meetings/advisory. At WCHS, students can attend college info sessions from various local colleges and participate in a variety of fun activities during lunch and advisory. 

International Festival: The 18th Annual International Festival is almost here! Please join us on Saturday, April 29th from 3-6pm. Tickets to sample food, play games, and win treats are $1 at the gate.

K-8 Announcements

CAASPP Testing:  Our statewide testing window will take place between April 24th-May 31st for our 3rd-8th grade students.  Our theme this year is Lights, Camera, Testing! Students are the stars of the show and the spotlight is on them as they shine and show what they know! We know they will do their best.  You can help your child be prepared for testing each day by ensuring they have had a good night of sleep, ate a nutritious breakfast, and are on time each day! 

Spirit Day – Cultural Day: Friday, April 28th students and staff are encouraged to wear traditional clothing from your family’s heritage

K-8 Spring Picture Day: Spring picture day is Thursday, May 11th.  All students will have free dress. Only students who have prepaid AND filled out the form will be sent to the photographer to have their picture taken. CLICK HERE if you would like to have your student’s spring picture taken, please fill out the form above AND prepay online or send payment in the packet. Free shipping will be available for orders placed 4/24-4/26.  All 8th grade students should dress to impress – pictures for promotion certificates will be taken that day.

Open House  – Families, mark your calendars! Open House will be on Wednesday, May 17th from 5:30-7:00 PM. We are excited for you to come and experience  what your student(s) have been learning about all year. Food trucks, Cafe a la mode, Gondo Fusion, and Richeese Burgers will be available for purchase beginning at 5:00 PM so you can plan to enjoy dinner at WCS as well!

High School 101 Resources: Thank you to all of the families that came out to the High School 101 family event this past week.  CLICK HERE for the presentation from the event.  In this presentation you can check out the information from sessions presented including High School at a Glance, Dual Enrollment, Advanced Education, and Embedded Honors.

College Field Lessons: Our 9th and 10th grade students will be attending our annual College Field Lessons on May 2nd.  Our 9th graders will visit UC Davis and Sonoma State University.  Our 10th graders will visit San Francisco State University.  We are looking forward to having our students visit these campuses.  If you are interested in chaperoning on either of these dates please Click HERE

Fireworks Booth: Families we are so excited to partner with our WAVE team to offer a Fireworks booth to our community.  The proceeds from the Fireworks Booth will support our High School Athletics and Activities.  At this time we need both a family or families to lead the fireworks booth and we will be reaching out to our community to sign up for shifts to cover the fireworks sales at the booth. 

Staff Appreciation Week: National Staff Appreciation Week is coming up the week of May 8th-12th. We need your help to make this week fantastic for each and every staff member. More information will be coming home soon but we are collecting donations now. Thank you so much for all you do to support our incredible staff.

We are looking for:

  • Gift cards to use as raffle prizes
  • Snacks, drinks, and treats for a grab and go station
  • Money to use towards breakfast and lunch

WAVE Board Elections: Help us make the 23-24 school year amazing by joining the WAVE Board. All board positions of President, Vice President of Business Operations, Vice President of Parent Participation, Treasurer and Secretary are coming up for election in May. Joining the WAVE Board is a great way to guide school culture and make the WCS community a wonderful place for all staff and families.
