Our 8th grade humanities students performed their spoken word poetry this week. Spoken word is a project based unit where 8th grade students dive deep into figurative language by studying professional spoken word artists, composing their own scripts, memorizing them, and performing them in front of their peers!

2023/24 Academic Calendar: Our 2023/24 Academic Calendar has been approved and is linked here for your reference.  CLICK HERE for the 2023/24 Academic Calendar.  The 2023/24 school year will start on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023 and end on Thursday, June 6th, 2024.  If you have any questions on the calendar, please contact [email protected].

Take Home COVID Tests: Our partners at NUSD have provided us with take-home COVID tests to provide to our students and staff that will be sent home by Friday, February 10th. Testing is not mandatory and we will not be tracking negative tests. As always, we ask staff and students to report positive COVID-19 tests to contact tracing. CLICK HERE to notify our contact tracing team if you test positive; they will reach out to you with return to school timelines.

K-10 Parent Teacher Conferences:  K-10 Conference week – March 6th – March 10th.  Our Canyon Creek conference scheduler goes live to families on February 13th. Remember, during conference week we will dismiss early to allow time to meet with each of our families – Kindergarten will dismiss at 1:00 PM and 1st–8th grade will dismiss at 1:30 PM, and High School will dismiss at 1:29 PM. Our K-8 BASE program will be open after school until 6:00 PM each day.

K-12 Spirit Day – Reverse Day: Reverse Day will be Friday, February 17th on both our K-8 and High school campus. Students and staff can wear their clothes backwards and/or inside out and show their WCS spirit by posting pictures on all social media platforms and using the hashtag #WcsSpiritFridays! 

Talent Show: You are invited! Friday, February 17th @ 6PM, join us in the K-8 gymnasium  for our K-12 Talent Show! Come show your WCS spirit by supporting our performers! Don’t miss the grand finale of the staff dance. The event is free. Snacks will be sold at intermission. 

February Break: February Break is Monday, February 20th through Friday, February 24th. Both campuses and BASE will be closed for February break. We look forward to welcoming staff and students back on Monday, February 27th. 

K-8 Announcements

Missoula Children’s Theater Company: Monday, March  6th at 1:45 PM all K-8 students are welcome to audition for Missoula Theater Company’s production of The Jungle Book. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be in a professional show. CLICK HERE for details.  CLICK HERE to RSVP to audition. 

Enrichment sign ups: Our spring session of enrichment classes begins the week of March 13th. CLICK HERE to see the list of class offerings as well as information about how to register your student.

Lost and found: Our lost and found is overflowing with jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles and more! Please check for any missing items by Friday, February 17th. All unclaimed items will be donated over February Break.

Walk & Bike to School in Winter Giveaway: All students who walk or bike to school and have their Jibe Trip Card scanned at least 10 times in January and February will be entered to win a $25 Target gift card. Five winners will be randomly selected on March 1st. Be sure to visit a parent in an orange apron to have your card scanned or sign up to participate. CLICK HERE to learn more. 

8th Grade Information Night:  If you were not able to attend the 8th grade information session last week, please CLICK HERE to check out the resources that were provided. Student behavior contracts for end-of-year events were due to Advisory teachers  no later than Friday, February 10th. 

9-12 Announcements

Upcoming Games for the week:

Girls Soccer and Boys Volleyball Information Meeting:  All families who have a student in Spring Sports (Boys Volleyball and Girls Soccer) you are invited to attend an Informational Meeting at our K8 campus on February 16th from 6-7PM.

10th Grade Hearing/Vision: 10th Grade students will have hearing and vision screening on Thursday, February 16th.

BSU presents Movie Night: High School students are invited to attend a movie night on Wednesday 2/15 from 4:30-6:30.  In celebration of Black History Month our BSU will show the “The Hate You Give”. Students in attendance must have a signed permission slip to be in attendance. Permission slips can be picked up in the front office.

Volunteer Log Competition: The grade level with the most volunteer hours logged in February will choose from a list of prizes including free dress day, picnic with Coach, extra recess, and more. 6th grade is currently in the lead! Family Science Night: Please join us on Thursday, March 2nd at 5:30pm in the K-8 cafeteria for a fun and interactive Family Science Night with Sierra Nevada Journeys. The first half of the event will be full of a dozen different hands-on STEM stations for all ages to enjoy. Beginning at 6:15pm, families break up into teams for a friendly design challenge. What an incredible opportunity to experience hands-on learning with the entire family. We need a mix of adult and 6-10th grade student volunteers. Please CLICK HERE to sign up!

International Festival: Save the date for the 18th annual International Festival on Saturday, April 29th from 3-6pm. We currently need volunteers for the planning committee and cultural booths to get started on the event. Kudos: Our middle school students are incredibly excited about their first dance of the year! Huge thanks to Ms. Ho, leadership students, and all of the parents volunteering and donating. Together we made this possible for over 250 students!
