Celebrations

We had five field lessons across our K-12 campus in the last week: 5th grade explored MOSAC, 2nd grade visited the B street theater, 10th grade toured UC Davis, High School theater watched a play at Celebration Arts, and High School Planting a Revolution students traveled to the library to tour the seed library. Thanks to our amazing educators for planning these Joyful Learning opportunities, and thank you to all of the chaperones for keeping our students safe. Kindergarten-8th Grade Explorers wowed at this year’s Missoula Children’s Theater performance of Alice in Wonderland.  They spent a long week rehearsing and performed two shows on Saturday to packed houses. Way to go Explorers and thank you to our WAVE partners who help make this possible.

Westlake Charter High School was thrilled to welcome our 8th grade Explorers to campus this week for our annual Shadow Day! These future high schoolers  had the opportunity to connect with current students, learn more about WCHS, and experience a preview of high school life. Thank you to our middle school and high school students and staff for working together to support our students as they prepare for this exciting transition.

K-12 Announcements

NUSD Facilities Community Meetings: Our partners at the Natomas Unified School District (NUSD) are hosting community meetings seeking input about future facilities needs. Westlake Charter School families frequently ask about a permanent facility for our high school.  These meetings are the perfect opportunity to collaborate with NUSD on what future facilities projects are important to our families.  The third, and final meeting is TOMORROW, Monday, March 9th @ 5:30 PM at Natomas Park Elementary.  CLICK HERE to see the flyer from NUSD.

Family Survey: The Family Survey is taken three times a year. CLICK HERE to answer six questions to rate your family’s experience at Westlake Charter School during the 2025-26 school year. The deadline is Sunday, March 22nd.

Hearing and Vision Screening: Our annual hearing and vision screening for Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 8th grade students will be March 16th and 17th. Letters were sent home in Friday folders. If you would like your student to opt out, please email [email protected].

WCHS Student Leadership Development Conference: Westlake Charter High School’s current student leaders are hosting their Second Annual Student Leadership Development Conference on Saturday, March 21st from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. WCS Eighth Grade Explorers are invited to participate to enhance their leadership skills and discover leadership opportunities at WCHS. Throughout the event, students will have the chance to select workshops focused on personal leadership development. There is no cost to participate and lunch will be provided. After School Live – Explorer Enrichment Sign-ups: Our spring Explorer Enrichment programs are starting soon! CLICK HERE to see the catalog of Explorer Enrichment course offerings and information about how to sign up. 

After School Live – MS Basketball Season: The ASLive Basketball Season for 6th-8th Graders will run March 30th – May 29th. The time commitment is 1-2 days a week of games or practices from 3:15 – 4:15 PM. Unlike Volleyball, which has coed teams, Basketball will have separate boys and girls teams. Emails went out to families and students who signed up for our Middle School Basketball season. Fifth and Seventh Grade Families – California Healthy Kids Survey: We will administer the California Healthy Kids Survey in 5th and 7th Grade  grade during the week of March 16th. The results from this survey help our staff ensure that our programs are meeting the needs of our school. This survey will take 10-15 minutes.

Course Selection for 2026-2027 School Year: Course selection for next year will take place on campus during Advisory and Flex Blocks the week of March 16th.  For course selection, students will attend an assembly with our counseling team to learn about their options before making their choices. Families can look forward to additional details and resources to support the process in the coming weeks.

SAT for Juniors – Wednesday, March 11th: Eleventh grade students who have opted into taking the SAT on March 11th will meet with WCHS staff to prepare their devices for the test and discuss logistics on Monday, March 9th. Remember that students will need their Chromebooks for both the SAT pre-meeting on March 9th and the SAT assessment on March 11th.

WAVE Events at WCHS in March: We are excited that WAVE will be hosting the following events on our high school campus next month. These events provide meaningful opportunities for families to connect and engage with our school community on the high school campus.

Save the Date for Navigating High School: Tools for Every Grade Level: Join us for Navigating High School: Tools for Every Grade Level on Thursday, March 19th at 5:00 PM at WCHS.  This evening is designed to support students and families at every stage in their high school journey, offering practical guidance on academic planning, postsecondary preparation, and key milestones from freshman year through senior year. Families will have the opportunity to attend two informational sessions on topics such as Dual Enrollment, Financial Aid, Senior Timelines, and more. Movie Night: On Friday, March 20th at 5:30 PM, WCHS Student Council will be hosting a student movie night. Students can join us in the gym to watch a fun, student-voted movie.

21st Annual International Festival: Are you interested in sharing your culture at Westlake Charter School’s 21st Annual International Festival on Saturday, April 25th? Families can host a food or activity booth or perform on stage to showcase traditions, music, food, and more!  Our goal is 20 booths this year, so if you’ve been thinking about participating, we’d love to have you join this once-a-year celebration with the community.
