Spirit Day – Rainbow Day: Rainbow Day is THIS Friday, January 23rd. K-8 Explorers can wear their favorite colors and show off all the colors of the rainbow! WCHS Explorers should wear their grade level colors. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #WCSSpiritDay when posting on social media!

Talent Show: You are invited! Join us in the K-8 gymnasium on Friday, February 13th @ 6:00 PM for our K-12 Talent Show! Come show your WCS spirit by supporting our performers! Don’t miss the amazing staff dance! The event is free to attend.

GATE Testing:  The goal of the Westlake Charter School’s GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program is to provide differentiated learning opportunities during the regular school day for our students.  All current 2nd graders and referred 3rd-12th graders will be given the opportunity to take the GATE qualification test.  Parent/guardian referral forms for students currently enrolled in grades 3rd-12th will be accepted until  January 23rd at 4:00 PM. K-8 Announcements

Spelling Bee:  It’s time for the annual Spelling Bee! Class winners were notified before Winter Break. Our school Spelling Bee will be held THIS Wednesday, January 21st @ 5:30 PM.

Jibe Polar Paws Challenge: Students are invited to walk, bike, or scoot to school as many times as possible between January 20th and January 30th to help their class win a polar bear adoption and prize pack. The three classes with the highest participation will have their prizes delivered by a special visitor! By reducing car trips, you can help preserve polar bears’ sea ice homes in the Arctic. Career Day: We are planning our Spring 2026 Career Day with our 3rd and 7th grade students!  Career exploration promotes self-awareness and allows students to learn about their abilities, interests, and strengths.  We are looking for volunteers to share about their careers! Presenters would be expected to give a 20-25 minute presentation to two to three groups of students at our K-8 campus. If you or someone you know has an awesome career and would be interested in sharing about it with our students, please CLICK HERE to express interest and our counselors will reach out to you. Expressed interest does not commit you to speaking at Career Day – we are gathering interest first! Thank you all for your support!

9-12 Announcements

Spring Semester Honors Course Opt-in:  Beginning in 10th grade, students at WCHS may opt into embedded honors courses. During the first two weeks of the semester, teachers will be sharing their honors syllabi and exposing students to honors level work.  Students may opt in to taking an honors course by using the Course Change Request form through THIS Tuesday, January 20th.  CLICK HERE for the Course Change Request form.

WAVE Planning Committee Meeting: Want to get involved with WAVE?  WAVE will host a planning committee meeting via Zoom on Thursday, January 29th at 7:00 PM.  Every family is invited to help plan and give feedback for our future events. We’ve got some amazing events coming up — Family Dance, International Festival, and Staff Appreciation Week! Tracking volunteer time helps us meet our school’s charter commitments and shows the incredible impact our families make.
