2026-27 Academic Calendar: CLICK HERE to reference the 2026-27 Academic Calendar which was approved at the WCS Board Meeting on December 11th.  The 2026-27 school year will start on Wednesday, August 12th, 2026 and end on Wednesday, June 9th, 2027.  If you have any questions regarding the calendar, please contact [email protected].

K-12 Talent Show Sign-Ups: CLICK HERE to sign up to audition to be a host, perform a talent, or be part of the stage crew team! Audition sign-ups are due Tuesday, January 13th.

• Auditions: Thursday, January 22nd, 3:30  – 5:30 PM in the K8 Library
• Talent Show Performance: Friday, February 13th @ 6:00 PM

GATE Testing:  The goal of the Westlake Charter School’s GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program is to provide differentiated learning opportunities during the regular school day for our students.  All current 2nd graders and referred 3rd-12th graders will be given the opportunity to take the GATE qualification test.  Parent/guardian referral forms for students currently enrolled in grades 3rd-12th will be accepted until  January 23rd at 4:00 PM. K-8 Announcements

Spelling Bee:  It’s time for the annual Spelling Bee! Class winners were notified before Winter Break. Our school Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, January 21st @ 5:30 PM.

After School Live – Explorer Enrichment Sign-ups: Our winter Explorer Enrichment programs are starting soon! CLICK HERE to see the catalog of Explorer Enrichment course offerings and information about how to sign up.

After School Live – Volleyball season: Middle school volleyball season starts next week: 

• Monday, January 12th: 8th Grade Skills Assessment @ 3:20 – 4:10 PM 
• Tuesday, January 13th: 6th/7th Grade Skills Assessment  @ 3:20 – 4:10 PM
• Thursday, January 15th: 6th/7th/8th Grade Skills Assessment @ 3:20 – 4:10 PM

Team assignments and schedules will be sent out by Sunday evening, and practices start the week of January 19th.  If you have not already completed an athletic participant packet this school year, please CLICK HERE for our digital packet or pick up a paper packet from the front office. Completed packets and physicals are required for participation. NUSD has free sports physicals Thursdays from 2:00 – 6:00 PM. CLICK HERE for the flyer to make an appointment. WCHS Report Card Timeline: The end of the Fall Semester was December 19th. Teachers finalized grades last week and report cards will be sent home to families the week of January 12th. In the meantime, we encourage all families to review your child’s academic progress in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.  If you need assistance with the portal, email [email protected].

WCHS Spring Semester Back to School Night: With WCHS operating on a block schedule, students will have new classes for the spring semester.  Join us on the evening of Wednesday, January 14th from 5:00 – 6:15 PM to meet your student’s new teachers and learn more about their classes for the upcoming semester.

Spring Semester Honors Course Opt-in:  Beginning in 10th grade, students at WCHS may opt into embedded honors courses. During the first two weeks of the semester, teachers will be sharing their honors syllabi and exposing students to honors level work.  Students may opt in to taking an honors course by using the Course Change Request form from Tuesday,  January 6th through Tuesday, January 20th.  CLICK HERE for the Course Change Request form.

WAVE Planning Committee Meeting: Want to get involved with WAVE?  WAVE will host a planning committee meeting via Zoom on Thursday, January 29th at 7:00 PM.  Every family is invited to help plan and give feedback for our future events. We’ve got some amazing events coming up — Family Dance, International Festival, and Staff Appreciation Week! Tracking volunteer time helps us meet our school’s charter commitments and shows the incredible impact our families make.
