Celebrations

For the past eight weeks, our Explorers have been on an incredible learning journey, building their skills one minute at a time with Imagine Math and Lexia! Their hard work, determination, and dedication have been truly inspiring! We couldn’t be prouder of their amazing efforts! And to celebrate all their hard work, those who earned the most minutes per class were rewarded with a pizza party! A big shoutout to those who went above and beyond! Keep up the great work, Explorers!

WCHS Explorers had an exciting opportunity to blend art, science, and law in a unique hands-on project! Ms. Firsty collaborated with Mrs. Miksits’ Advanced Anatomy class to create accurate forensic crime scenes using their knowledge of human anatomy. Each scene included detailed witness statements to build a case. The investigations were then handed over to Ms. Lehman’s Legal Studies class, where students took on the challenge of mounting a defense for the accused. This engaging cross-curricular collaboration allowed students to apply their learning in creative and practical ways—truly an amazing experience!

CDPH – When to Keep Your Child Home from School:  With the cold and flu season well underway, we want to share some guidance from our partners at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) regarding illness. CLICK HERE for a helpful flyer with suggestions on when to keep your child home when they are not feeling well.

New Attendance Notification System: At Westlake Charter School, we are always looking for ways to strengthen our connection with families and support our students in reaching their full potential. One of the most important factors in student success is consistent attendance, and we want to ensure that every family has the tools and information they need to help their child thrive.

In the next month, we are launching a new attendance notification system designed to help families stay informed when a student misses school. This system will track attendance from January 7th through the end of the school year and provide timely notifications to parents and guardians. In addition to tracking recent absences, we will also include Chronic Absenteeism data for the entire school year to help families understand their student’s overall attendance patterns.

Our goal is not only to keep you informed but also to partner with you in supporting your child’s attendance and removing any barriers that might make getting to school a challenge. We know that life can sometimes make attendance difficult, and we want to work alongside you to ensure every student has the opportunity to fully engage in learning each day.

If you have any questions about your child’s attendance or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we are here to help!

Thank you for your partnership and for entrusting us with your child’s education. Let’s continue making this school year a great one.
