As the American River College semester launches, so does dual enrollment at WCHS. Kudos to Ms. Goldstein who is facilitating our dual enrollment college success class. Ms. Goldstein is working to empower students with the skills they need for academic and life success. She is enriching the dual enrollment curriculum and setting our students on a path to thrive in higher education.

Announcements

K-12 Announcements

Attendance: Being at school every day has many positive impacts on your student(s) and their success in school. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school – and themselves. Start building this early in elementary school so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually, good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school, college, and in life.

If you are having trouble with getting your student to school each day, we want to support you. Please contact your student’s principal and they will gladly set up a time to collaborate with you.

Labor Day: Westlake Charter School and our BASE program will be closed TOMORROW, Monday, September 2nd for Labor Day.

Suicide Prevention: September is Suicide Prevention Month. Throughout this month, our counseling staff will launch our Suicide Prevention Week of activities for Middle and High School Explorers. Grades 6th – 12th will have lunch activities as well as visits from the counseling team during their Advisory period. We recognize the sensitive nature of the topic of suicide and we are glad to have the opportunity to inform and educate our students so that they are safe.  If you have questions or concerns about your student, please contact our Director of Student Support Services, Katie Davis, at [email protected].

Olympic Triathlon Event Day: On September 27th, our Explorers will participate in a fun day of activities highlighting our amazing specialty classes: Spanish, Art, and P.E. This event is completely staffed and planned by our family volunteers and supported by our amazing staff. We need your help to make sure this event is successful!  CLICK HERE to sign up to volunteer on event day.

Olympic Triathlon: The 17th Annual Westlake Charter School Olympic Triathlon is here! The Triathlon is not only our biggest fundraiser of the year, but an event to showcase what makes our school unique. It is about celebrating and supporting our Enriched Educational Opportunities, which includes speciality classes at our K-8, athletics, clubs, and activities. This event allows WCS to celebrate these incredible opportunities and offer our family, friends, and community a way to support this work.

On Friday, September 27th our students will participate in a special day of learning on the Olympic Triathlon event day. This day is completely staffed and planned by our family volunteers alongside some fabulous WCS staff members. We need your help to make this day fun and successful for our school and students. Be on the lookout for information in your student’s backpack regarding the event, prizes, in person collection days, and more. Thank you for your continued support!

You can get started fundraising now! Please CLICK HERE to set up a family donation page on the Pledgestar website. You can customize it with your student’s name, a photo, and donation goal. It is easy to quickly request sponsors via email or text explaining why WCS is amazing and how they can help us meet our goal this year.

Let’s make this year’s Olympic Triathlon a huge success! Our goal is to beat last year’s fundraising total of $40,000!

Our 2024 – 2025 Fundraising Goals:

  • $180 per student – $1 for each day of school!

  • What is a Class Ambassador or Grade Level Liaison?
    • Class Ambassadors serve as the classroom liaison between the teachers, the families, and WAVE. They are important members of the Westlake family community, becoming the source of information for upcoming events and activities in their child’s classroom. We hope to have at least one ambassador per classroom. Class Ambassadors will report to a Grade Level Liaison for their respective grade levels.
    • Grade Level Liaisons will be the lead coordinator and communicator for the Classroom Ambassadors.
  • What is the time commitment for the Class Ambassador or Grade Level Liaison?
    • Monthly Classroom Ambassador Check-in – 1 hr/month
    • Communicating with other families – 0-2 hrs/month

As a Class Ambassador, you will help to foster community at Westlake. Class Ambassadors can leverage relationships to make Westlake the best possible school for our kids (all while getting to know other families in your child’s class better!).  CLICK HERE to sign up to become a Class Ambassador or Grade Level Liaison.
