Spring Break: Both campuses will be closed for Spring Break Monday, April 15th through Monday, April 22nd. We look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, April 23rd. BASE will be closed Monday, April 15th – Friday, April 19th but will be open on Monday, April 22nd.
Book Fair: Our Scholastic Book Fair is open Wednesday, April 24th – Monday, April 29th, including during the International Festival on Saturday, April 27th! K-8 students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair during their regularly scheduled library visit and/or after school with a parent/guardian at the times listed below. CLICK HERE to set up your student’s e-wallet because cash is not accepted at the book fair. The book fair schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday, April 24th from 1:30 – 4:00 PM
- Thursday, April 25th from 3:00 – 4:30 PM
- Friday, April 26th from 3:00 – 4:30 PM
- Saturday, April 27th from 3:00 – 5:30 PM
- Monday, April 29th, 3:00 – 4:30 PM
19th Annual International Festival: Our 19th Annual International Festival is just around the corner on Saturday, April 27th! This community event is a family favorite that helps celebrate Westlake’s diversity. In order to continue to host this spectacular event, we need your support. It’s not too late to sign up to plan, volunteer at the event, donate equipment, bake or purchase desserts for the Dessert Walk, or host a cultural booth.
- Cultural Booths: We currently have 20 booths signed up, but our goal is to see as many countries and cultures represented as possible. Cultural Booth hosts may provide a small sampling of native cuisine, cultural artifacts, and/or a children’s activity/game – the booth can be as simple or complex as you would like. Hosts are reimbursed up to $150 for booth expenses. CLICK HERE to sign up to host a Cultural Booth.
- Dessert Walk: Want to show off your baking skills? CLICK HERE to donate desserts for the Dessert Walk.
- Equipment & Supplies: Equipment and supply donations are also needed (pop-up tents, ice chests, tables, drinks, ice). CLICK HERE to sign up to donate or lend us your equipment.
- Volunteers: The success of this event greatly depends on the support of our volunteers. There are still many opportunities available and it is a chance to get those volunteer hours in during the last trimester! CLICK HERE to sign up for a shift.

CAASPP Testing: Our statewide testing window will take place between April 24th – May 31st for our 3rd-8th & 11th grade students. CLICK HERE for our annual notification letter with more testing information.

K-8 Announcements
K-8 Progress Reports: Progress Reports were sent home with students on Friday, April 12th. Please reach out if you need another copy of your student’s progress report or have any questions.
Middle School Flag Football: Flag Football season starts Tuesday, April 23rd when we return from Spring Break! If your student would like to play and has not yet played athletics this year, please complete a participant packet. Paper copies can be picked up from the front desk or Coach Sterling. CLICK HERE to sign your student up to play.
Volunteers Needed: The Walk and Bike to School program is looking for Walking School Bus chaperones and campus scanners. This is a great way to meet other families, work with students, and connect with the community. Please email [email protected] to learn more. Volunteer opportunities are available as few as two times per month and up to five days per week. Please join us as we help students enjoy alternative ways to travel to school!
BASE Summer Camp: BASE will be open over summer break! Our team is planning a variety of enriching activities and opportunities for our Explorers.
- BASE Summer Camp will be open June 10th – June 28th and July 8th – August 2nd.
- Incoming kindergarteners are eligible to start attending on July 8th.

9-12 Announcements
College Week: We will be celebrating College Week on both of our campuses from April 23rd – 26th. At WCHS our College Week will include lessons in Advisory, lunchtime activities, and a college fair right here on campus on Friday, April 26th. We will have representatives from University of Nevada, Reno, Sacramento State, American River College, Universal Technical Institute, Northern Arizona University, DePaul University, California Northstate University, University of California, Merced, and a representative from the United States Navy here to talk with students. All students will be able to attend the college fair during an extended Advisory time.
WCHS Prom, Saturday, May 4th: We are looking forward to our very first WCHS Prom on May 4th. This event will be for our junior class, however students can bring approved guests, including WCHS sophomores and freshmen if they have completed a guest application and it is approved. Tickets are $45 each and are currently on sale at lunch time. Adults who would like to help with set up, clean up, and donating can CLICK HERE to reach out to our Activities Director, Mrs. Grimaldi.
Prom Spirit Week – April 29th – May 3rd: During the week leading up to Prom, April 29-May 3rd, we will be having a Prom Spirit Week. The spirit days are as follows:
- Monday: Just Got Out of Bed Day – A day when pajamas and tousled hair reign supreme, as students can embrace the cozy comfort of their morning attire
- Tuesday: Rhyme Without Reason Day – A day where students can let their creativity run wild, donning eclectic outfits that rhyme but are not related
- Wednesday: White Lie Day – A day of playful deception as students dress in outfits inspired by harmless white lies
- Thursday: Meme Day – A day filled with laughter and internet – inspired creativity as students bring popular memes to life
- Friday: Starry Night Day – A day to incorporate elements of the night sky into outfits for a celestial-themed celebration
2023-24 WCHS Yearbook: The 2023-24 WCHS Yearbooks are available for purchase now! Students and families can also add on a half-page ad or a Shout-out Message for a student. CLICK HERE to purchase your yearbook by April 26th, 2024.
Restaurant Fundraiser: Skip the cooking and the dishes on Wednesday, April 24th and join us for an exciting fundraiser at the newly opened Local Kitchens restaurant at 2650 Arena Blvd! Staff Appreciation Week: Staff Appreciation Week is right around the corner, May 6th – 10th. This year’s theme is “Staff Wellness”. Below is a schedule for the week.
- Friday 5/3: Deep clean and redecorate the staff lounge at each campus.
- Monday 5/6: Made-to-Order Juice Bar. Staff will put in an order ahead of time and can pick up their custom made smoothie in the morning.
- Tuesday 5/7: Parents will set up a Wellness Retreat at the K-8 campus. Staff can enjoy a mentally and physically calming experience using a combination of massage, meditation and music. On this day, our WCHS staff will enjoy a catered lunch.
- Wednesday 5/8: We will provide grab and go snacks for both campuses.
- Thursday 5/9: Our WCHS Staff can partake in the wonderful Wellness Retreat experience while our K-8 staff enjoys a catered lunch.
- Friday 5/10: A delectable chocolate bar will be set up at both campuses.

2024-25 WAVE Board Elections: Are you interested in getting more involved with the Westlake Association of Volunteer Explorers (WAVE)? Join the WAVE board and help us make the 2024-25 school year amazing! All board positions of President, Vice President of Parent Participation, Vice President of Business Affairs, Treasurer, and Secretary are coming up for election in May. Joining the WAVE Board is a great way to guide school culture and make the WCS community a wonderful place for all staff and families.
