Fall Picture Day – TOMORROW: Kindergarten-10th grade picture day will be on Monday, August 29th at both campuses. This is a uniform picture day for our K-8 campus. All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook and student IDs, even if they don’t purchase a picture package. CLICK HERE to pre-purchase your pictures online. K-5 class pictures and 6-8 composites will be available for purchase after retake day. 

School Supplies and Field Lesson Donations: Great News Explorer families! Westlake Charter has already reached 16% of our School Supplies Donation goal! Note: When you make a monthly donation, our grade level campaigns are credited for the entire year in advance on our goal thermometer! Keep up the great work, Explorer families! WCS is Hiring: Did you hear? WCS is looking for substitute teachers, as well as full and part time positions! Instructional Aide and support staff positions are now open. We are looking for innovative, collaborative, positive staff members with a growth mindset. Do you know someone that would be a good fit at Westlake Charter School? Call for Coaches: Our 6-8 basketball season is coming soon! We are looking for ten high school or adult volunteer coaches. Coaching materials will be provided and Coach Sterling will be present every day to support. Practices and games are 3:20-4:10 and start after October break. Please email Sterling Wynne ([email protected])  if you are available to help. This program is not possible without community volunteers, so please spread the word!

Labor Day: Westlake Charter School and our BASE program will be closed on Monday, September 5th for Labor Day.

Birthday Celebration/Food Deliveries: Just a reminder for those families wishing to celebrate their Explorer, birthday treats (cake, cookies, cupcakes, pizza, etc.) are not allowed in the classroom or cafeteria. You may send a small, lunchbox-sized, sealed birthday bag with a non-food treat for their student or the entire class. Balloons, flowers, or other gifts cause a distraction in the classroom and cafeteria. These items should not be sent to school and unfortunately, any such deliveries will be held in the office until dismissal time.  

• In addition, we are unable to accept any  food delivered to a WCS student by any food delivery service. If your child forgot their breakfast or lunch, don’t worry! We have both meals in the cafeteria for them…and for free! 

K-8 Announcements

Learning Lab: The Learning Lab is for 6th through 8th grade students.  If your Middle School student needs additional assistance with work, the Learning Lab is open daily from 3:15 to 3:45.  You can sign your student up by using the School Dismissal Manager app.

Gate Times: Our campus gates are locked from 8:30 am when school begins and are unlocked again at 3:15 pm for dismissal. We appreciate your support keeping our campus and students safe.

Sign up for basketball: Our 6-8 basketball season will be launching in just a few weeks. Middle schoolers can CLICK HERE to sign up to play!

9-12 Announcements

WCHS Back to School Night: Our WCHS Back to School Night is on Wednesday, August 31st, beginning at 6:00 PM and concluding at 7:30 PM. To the best of our ability, we would like to keep this event distraction free by encouraging families to make this a non-student event. This will allow for teachers and families to connect in a distraction-free environment. Families will rotate through their student’s classrooms following their  schedule. Schedules will be available at Back to School Night. We will also have an optional reception in the Oasis for families to meet each other and to learn more about some of our High School offerings. 

WCHS Games of the Week: Come out and cheer on our Explorer Athletes at the  next Westlake Charter High School games of the 22-23 fall season! All home games will be played on our K-8 campus.

Learning Lab:  Our high school Learning Lab is open.  If your student needs additional assistance with work in any class, the Learning Lab is open daily at lunch and from 3:45 to 4:15.  No sign ups are necessary.  Students just need to show up to receive help.

OTUS:  Families will receive their Otus Login information at Back to School Night. 

Calling all Volunteers!: Volunteers are currently needed on all of our committees. We especially need help with the Fall Festival, Olympic Triathlon, and High School Sports. Spirit Store: Our Spirit Store is open! CLICK HERE to choose from over 70 items. We have added new items to our store including a blanket, women’s v-neck t-shirts, and mugs. WAVE does not have an inventory so please be sure to check sizing information before placing your order. All items are made to order and shipped directly to you. We cannot wait to see this gear on campus and out in the community!

K-8 Classroom Ambassadors (formerly known as Room Parents): We need a Classroom Ambassador for each and every K-8 class (advisory for middle school). Classroom Ambassadors will work with teachers to plan special events/requests, communicate with parents regarding volunteer needs, and support WAVE in the classroom. This position will also work with our Grade Level Liaisons to build community through events and activities. This is a great way to stay involved. Please CLICK HERE to volunteer today. Thank you!

Kudos: Our Fall High School sports are off to a fantastic start! Girls volleyball, boys soccer, and cross country have all had their first games and meets. Huge thanks to our Athletic Director, coaches, athletes, spectators, and families! If you haven’t been out to a game or match be sure to check it out!
