In partnership with the Missoula Children’s Theater company, our explorers put on 2 performances of Gulliver’s Travels. Students showed perseverance and responsibility to learn an entire production in one week, and the end result was remarkable!

Students read their persuasive writing letters to Mayor Steinberg and Mayor Pro Tem Ashby at a Student Voice assembly this week. Our students learned how to present organized, researched, and well-thought out opinions, and did were able to speak with confidence and poise!

Announcements

Yearbook Orders – DEADLINE EXTENDED: Click HERE to order your 2018-19 yearbook by Wednesday, May 29th at 3:00 pm. The cost is $20. We have a limited quantity so don’t delay in placing your order – orders will only be filled while supplies last. Yearbooks will be delivered the last week of May

Trip Scanner: As the school year wraps up, don’t forget to keep your explorers trip scanners for next year. Get a jump start on next year by keeping the card they use to track their walking and biking to school for their next grade level. For 3rd grade and up, boot bucks roll over. So keep their trip scanner close!

6th Grade Intro Night: We are excited to welcome all incoming 6th graders to 6th Grade Intro Night on Tuesday, May 28th starting at 6:00 PM. This event is for parents and students. We will start in the cafeteria with a middle school overview, students will find out which advisory class they will be in, then families will break out to the advisory classrooms to get to know their teacher and advisory classmates. 6th-8th Advisory Fishbowl: Please join us as our 6th-8th grade take part in our second Advisory Fishbowl. On May 30th from 8:15 AM – 8:57 AM, you will join a small group of 6th-8th grade students and a staff member and engage in a guided conversation. Click HERE to sign up to be a part of this event.

Trimester 3 Parent Survey: The Parent Survey is taken at the end of each trimester. Click HERE to to answer six questions to rate your family’s experience at Westlake Charter School during the 2018-19 school year.

Field Day/Report Cards:  Field day takes place on our last day of school on Wednesday, June 5th. All grades will dismiss at 12:00 pm.

  • Click HERE to volunteer for Field Day and to donate supplies.
  • Report cards will be distributed at 12:00 pm, so please plan to for your student to attend the entire field day.
  • If you have an appointment and need to pick your student up early, please plan for extra time as the students will be in rotating stations for field day.
  • Also, please note that there will be no afternoon walking school bus on Wednesday, June 5th. We are in need of pop up tents for field day.

K-5 Morning Meeting: Families are welcome to join us for our end of trimester whole school morning meeting! At the whole school morning meeting, we celebrate students and build community in the same way we do in class each day.

  • K-2: Wednesday, June 4th, 8:45 AM – 9:30 AM
  • 3-5: Wednesday, June 4th, 9:45 AM – 10:30 AM

8th Grade Promotion: 8th grade students should arrive at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 5th to practice promotion – dismiss at 12:00 PM. Promotion will be in the gym at 4:00 PM.

Fireworks Booth: The WCS Fireworks Booth is WAVE’s first fundraiser of the year and is a great chance for you to get a head start on your volunteer hours for next year! We need volunteers to sign up for 106 shifts so there is plenty of opportunity to help out. You can even sign up for more than one shift AND if you volunteer for a shift on the 4th of July, you’ll earn DOUBLE volunteer hours. Also, all volunteers can save an additional 10% off of their purchase.

Box Tops Winners: Congratulations to Mrs. Rice’s class and Mr. Lokteff’s class for winning the last Box Tops competition of the year. Enjoy your class celebration! Box Tops are a great way to earn money for Westlake so keep saving them Explorer Families!

Kudos: All of this year’s incredible WAVE sponsored events, activities, fundraisers and more wouldn’t have been possible without the WAVE Executive Board of Amber Hustead, Aileen Go Policarpio, Alma Arrieta, Shari Kantor and Veronica Hernandez.
