Parent’s Go to School Night: January 30th has the answers to these questions and more including reading, writing, math & technology sessions: What is Project GLAD? How can I help my student in Spanish? Do you need strategies to support your child’s mental health?

GATE Testing: The goal of Westlake Charter School’s GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Program is to provide differentiated learning opportunities during the regular school day for our students. All current 2nd graders and referred 3rd-8th graders will be given the opportunity to take the GATE qualification test. GATE Testing Information and Timeline

ATS Testing: Are you interested in getting a taste of the college experience? Academic Talent Search (ATS) offers 4th-9th graders (grade level as of Jan. 1, 2019) exciting summer courses at Sacramento State that you pick yourself! To join these interactive and hands-on classes, you need to take the ATS Qualifying Exam. The test only takes an hour and there is no pass or fail, so there’s no need to stress! You MUST take the test to apply for classes, but you don’t have to apply if you change your mind. The Qualifying Exam will be offered at Westlake on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at 3:45 PM. Explorer Athletics: The winter season starts next week! Boys basketball skills evaluation is Monday, January 14. Girls basketball skills evaluation is Tuesday, January 15. Students head straight to the locker rooms after dismissal to change and meet Mrs. Chavez and Mr. Beau in the gym. Teams will be made after the skills evaluations and schedules distributed the following day. Dodgeball starts Wednesday, from 1:30-2:30; schedules were distributed to students last week. Students must have completed paperwork to participate. Email [email protected] with questions.
After-School Live Clubs: This winter session, middle schoolers are leading five after-school clubs for our Explorers. Click HERE for more information and to enter your student in the lottery for their first choice club. **We are still in need of adult chaperones for the two Tuesday clubs. The commitment is four hours over the course of four weeks (Jan 29, Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 26). Email [email protected] to support our program and earn volunteer hours!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day – No School: Monday, January 21st is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and there will be no school. BASE will also be closed.
WCS Spirit Store is Open ORDER by Jan 21st: We have a wide variety of items available including t-shirts, polos, outerwear and bags. Click HERE to browse our selection of WCS gear and place your order today. The deadline to submit an order is January 21st at noon and items are scheduled to arrive in February.
Prospective Parent Tour: We will have an open campus observation day on January 17th, 2019 for our Prospective Families. There are 2 tour times: 9:00am and 1:00pm. Each guided tour takes approximately 1 hour. No appointment is necessary. Please make arrangements for childcare for your children as this is a parent only observation. We will also have an information night where application assistance will be available on January 17th at 6:00 PM. Remember – the deadline to apply for the 2019-2020 lottery is January 31 at 4:00 PM. Parents Go To School Night: Please join us for “Parents Go to School Night” Wednesday, January 30 from 5:30 – 8:00pm to learn more about supporting your child’s learning at WCS! BASE will be free for the evening – please click HERE to reserve your spot. See you there!
Standards Based Grading Parent Night: What is Standards Based Grading? Please join us on Thursday, February 7th, from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Cafeteria for a parent information night about Standards Based Grading.
Family Gaming Night: Please join us for a fun and competitive Family Gaming Night on Friday, January 18th from 6-8pm. We will have TVs set up all over the gym and cafeteria for families to play and compete. We need systems brought in with controllers, cables and a game (must be rated E). Spirit Store: The Spirit Store is open! Click HERE to place your order by January 21st at NOON. All items ordered prior to the deadline will be delivered in February. This is the last order of the 18/19 school year!
My Princess and Me Dance: Tickets are selling quickly for the 7th Annual My Princess & Me Dance 2019: You Are My Sunshine. The Dance is on February 2nd from 6 to 8pm in the WCS gymnasium. This is an amazing event for dads, grandpas, uncles, friends, or father-figures to escort their special girl to an enchanted evening and make them feel like a princess. Enjoy dancing, desserts, photos, and more at this fun evening for girls ages 4 to 13. You can purchase your tickets and get all the information you need about this year’s event by Clicking HERE.
