Announcements
Open House: We are excited for our first K-8 Open House night on Wednesday, May 23rd. Middle school will present their Genius Hour projects from 5:30-6:15 PM. Open House will take place 6:00-7:00 PM. Food will be available for purchase from 5:00-7:00 PM from Chando’s Taco’s and Pizza Supreme Being Vegetarian options will be available, as well as drinks.

In order have a smoother start to the 2018-19 school year, we have moved our “Welcome Back Packet” to the spring! Packets went home this week. We are asking families to return them by Open House on Wednesday, May 23rd. If students do not plan to return to Westlake Charter for the 2018 – 19 school year, they will request a “Student Disenrollment” form from their teacher.
Spirit Shirt Contest: It’s time for Westlake to pick the student drawing for next year’s Friday spirit shirt! This is a contest open to all Westlake Charter School students. The winner will be announced at Morning Line-Up on Monday, June 4th. Click HERE to download the form. The deadline for the contest is Thursday, May 24th.
Spirit Days: We have two spirit days coming up. Please follow the dress code guidelines below for spirit day: Clothes must be free of inappropriate wording and images. All clothing must fit properly. Pants around the natural waist, tops completely covering the torso area. All shirts must have sleeves, no sleeveless shirts. All clothing must be free of rips and tears
- Friday, May 25th – Color Day: Students and teachers will represent their grade level by dressing in the color listed here: Kinder/Green, 1st/Yellow, 2nd/Blue, 3rd/Red, 4th/Orange, 5th/Purple, 6th/Black, 7th/White, 8th/Pink.
- Friday, June 8th – Summer Beach Day: Wear a Hawaiian shirt, grass skirt, board shorts, or other beach attire. No bathing suits – all shirts must have sleeves.
End of Year Assemblies: We are inviting all of our families to join us for our end of year assemblies on Tuesday, June 12th.Please see grade level details below:
- 8:45-9:30 AM – Kindergarten to 2nd Grade: Responsive classroom – see first hand the impact morning meetings have had on our students this year.
- 9:45-10:30 AM – 3rd-5th Grade: Responsive classroom – see first hand the impact morning meetings have had on our students this year.
- 2:40-3:10 PM – 6th – 8th Grade: Academic awards
Field Day Dismissal: Our K-8 Field Day will be Wednesday, June 13th. All grades will dismiss at noon that day. Click Here to volunteer for Field Day.
Yearbook Orders: Click HERE to order your 2017 – 18 yearbook on the supply donation page. The cost is $20. We have a limited quantity so don’t delay in placing your order – orders will only be filled while supplies last. Yearbooks will be delivered in June.
2018/19 WAVE Calendar Input: We are excited to begin working on the event calendar for next year and would love your input. Please contact Amber Hustead at [email protected] to let us know what event you enjoyed, something that you would change or a new idea entirely. Arden Fair School Cents Win: WCS came in 3rd place in this year’s School Cents Competition which earned $1000 for our school! Huge thanks to Kim Gustafson for leading this program for the past two years. We are still looking for a parent to lead this program for the 18/19 school year! Box Tops Competition: One more week! Please send in box tops to your student’s classroom by May 25th for the end of year classroom competition. The elementary and middle school class with the most turned in will win a donut party. Who will win this year?
Logging Volunteer Hours: WCS parents have volunteered thousands of hours this school year supporting our students and teachers. Don’t forget to log your hours using our quick and easy to use volunteer form. There are a few more volunteer opportunities coming up for families to get involved including 4th grade Pioneer Day, in the classroom and Field Day!
