This year’s Fall Festival is a perfect example of our Charter’s promise to partner with parents and our community. Each piece of the puzzle was well represented: Teachers work shone throughout, parents volunteered in abundance and our community supplied vendors and partners who walked through with amazement in their eyes. Westlake: thank you for demonstrating what is possible when we partner!

Mrs. Hoyt’s class went on a virtual field lesson to Cambodia this week. On this trip their classroom toured the famous Angkor Wat. The class learned about the Khmer Empire and Hindu Art of Angkor. GEOshow is a Choose Your Own Adventure experience.

Announcements

Olympic Triathlon: The Olympic Triathlon is a long standing tradition here at Westlake Charter School. In the beginning, our founders dreamed of a school that offered more for our students: Spanish, Art, Physical Education program, an international focus and teachers who masterfully designed curriculum to meet the personalized needs of every learner. The Olympic Triathlon helps our school to fund these dreams into reality. Our specialty programs, personalization through the use of cutting edge technology, and amazing community are all converging on our brand new campus in less than one year! This year, the proceeds raised from the Olympic Triathlon will go toward a special dream list item for our new facility, Water Bottle Filling Stations!

Halloween: While Halloween falls on a school day this year, please remember to send your students to school in their uniform. We encourage families to participate in the Candy Buy Back program at Children’s Choice Dental instead of sending students to school with candy.

NUSD Charter School Forum: Students from Westlake Charter, Natomas Charter, and NP3 will be conducting a question and answer session on local, state and national educational issues with the five candidates who are running for three seats on the Natomas Unified School District Board of Trustees election on November 8th . Join us for the forum on Tuesday, November 1st at 6:00pm at the Benvenuti Performing Arts center located at 4600 Blackrock Drive, Sacramento, 95835.

Morning Line up: Please remember that the school day begins at 8:20AM daily. Students must be on the blacktop for Morning Line Up at 8:20AM. Any student arriving to the black top after 8:20AM will be marked tardy. BASE opens as early as 7:00AM and the cafeteria is open and staffed at 7:50AM.

Conferences:  Families can access the Canyon Creek online scheduler by clicking HERE. Conference week is coming up November 14th-18th. We are excited to see 100% of our families attending conferences during conference week. Conferences are a time to celebrate your students growth and to set goals for the trimester ahead. Kudos to Ms. Rojo’s class which was the first to 100% of families signed up for a conference!

Walktober: October is officially “WALKTOBER”, and Tuesday, November 1st is the deadline to turn in your tracking sheets!

Be part of the difference our school makes in helping to keep our air clean, be healthy and have fun!  Record the number of times you have walked, biked, scooted or skated to or from school, on your tracking sheet, and earn prizes.  The class with the most completed tracking sheets will win a class prize of their choice!

If you have misplaced your WALKTOBER tracking sheets, or need another, go to WWW.NNTMA.org, to print one out.

Math Monday: Each week you can find the link for the Math Monday here.

Conferences: Conferences will be held the week of November 14th-18th. This year, students in 6th-8th grade will meet with their advisory teacher during conferences. We are aiming for 100% participation during conferences. Please sign up for your conference time by going to Canyon Creek, our online scheduler by clicking this link or going directly to our school website. If you would like to meet with any other teacher besides your advisory teacher, please email your advisory teacher directly and they will work with you to coordinate with your child’s other teacher to attend part of your conference. You should plan to attend the conference with your student. A portion of the conference will be led by your student. They will be preparing for the student-led part of their conference during advisory/homeroom classes. We look forward to meeting with all families to celebrate your student’s growth this trimester.

Eating in Classrooms: Students should eat snacks and lunch inside the cafeteria or during passing period. There should be no eating in the classroom. We have multiple students who have food allergies and we want to ensure the safety of all of our students.

Tardies: We have had an increase in schoolwide tardies since our October break.  Let’s work hard to make sure our Explorers are at school each day and on time.
