Celebrations:

Thank you to the organizers and all of our presenters for this incredible night of learning. PGTSN
movienight Wow, what a turn out for Movie Night this past week! We had over 300 Westlake family members show up with blankets and pillows to watch a movie in the cafeteria! Such a fun night! Thanks to all who participated and promoted this event…and of course, a very special thanks to our WAVE parent team for organizing a wonderful evening for our community!
This week our student, Talhah Bhuiyan, represented Westlake well during the Regional Spelling Bee.  There were 250,000 eligible students to participate in the Bee and only 61 qualified to be in the event.  We are incredibly proud of Talhah! Spelling Bee
facility Facilities Update!  Our partners at NUSD provided a facilities update last week, including this brief Fact Sheet. The construction bid is scheduled to be released early next month, with a late-April/early-May timeframe for the groundbreaking.
Mrs. Johnson introduced her new Chromebooks in kindergarten with a new, kid-friendly search engine, Kiddle!!  chromebooks
boat Our 8th-grade students just wrapped up their PBL: “Float Your Boat” this week.  During this PBL, students demonstrated an understanding of buoyancy through the design, construction, and testing of a raft.  The raft had to float and have the ability to hold increasing amounts of weight. Students’ creativity and excitement for their projects was evident throughout!

Announcements:

For the Whole School

Parent Teacher Conferences: The Westlake Charter School Mission includes a commitment to partnering with our parents. We believe that this work is important enough to create a special schedule twice per year to ensure that every family is able to sit down and speak with their student’s teacher. It is this partnership that helps us not only build an amazing school community but helps WCS to personalize our program for every child. Please make it a priority to attend a parent conference this Spring. We promise it will be worth your time.

WAVE Board:  Families, our WAVE team brings out the best in our Westlake Community. From organizing community events like the Olympic Triathlon and the Fall Festival to local family nights like Movie and Bingo Night, this team builds the community that we all enjoy here at Westlake. It is the time of year when the current board transitions and we look for parents who want to lead this volunteer organization. Please, don’t be shy, click here if you would like to learn more about how you can get involved in our WAVE parent organization.

Soups and Stories Night: WAVE is presenting Soups and Stories Night on Friday, March 11th at 6:00 PM on our Del Paso campus.  There are a lot of volunteer opportunities, whether you like to be in the spotlight or behind-the-scenes.  Click HERE for more information.  We hope to see you there!

For Del Paso

Math Monday: Have your students fill out this form to participate in Math Monday.

For Pebblewood

Conferences:  End of the trimester conferences are quickly approaching!  Conferences will be held the week of March 14th-18th.  This year, students in 6th-8th grade will meet with their advisory teacher during conferences.  We are shooting for 100% participation during conferences.  Please sign up for your conference time by going to Canyon Creek, our online scheduler, by clicking this link or going directly to our school website. If you would like to meet with any other teacher besides your advisory teacher, please email your advisory teacher directly and they will work with you to coordinate with your child’s other teacher to attend part of your conference.  You should plan to attend the conference with your student.  A portion of the conference will be led by your student.  They will be preparing for the student-led part of their conference during advisory/homeroom classes.  We look forward to meeting with all families to celebrate your student’s growth this trimester.

New electives: Our middle school students will begin their next set of electives on Monday, April 4th when we return from Spring Break.

Middle School Dance: The end of the Trimester is upon us, and what better way to celebrate your Explorer’s hard work than by attending the official Westlake Charter Spring Dance 2016? In our efforts to have the biggest and best dance ever, our Campus Culture team is reaching out to parents for deliciously edible donations! If you are able to donate, please use the Google Sheet to sign up for a particular item. We request items be store bought, and free of nut products.
