Westlake Charter is so lucky to have had the team from Google visit our school last Tuesday! Through virtual reality viewfinders, our students were able to travel around the globe, to the bottom of the ocean and to the surface of Mars! It was an amazing day to be a Westlake Explorer! |

For the Whole School
Free & Reduced Lunch Forms: For several reasons, it is very important that each of our families is accounted for when we calculate how many of our students are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals at school. First, Westlake feels very strongly that having access to healthy food is incredibly important to student health and learning. Furthermore, as we are quickly approaching our Charter Renewal hearing with the Natomas Unified School District, it is important to report to our authorizers the number of families who have applied for this program. Our school is credited for each family that applies, so please, even if you are not sure your family qualifies, we encourage you to apply.
It has come to our attention that not every family has had the opportunity to complete a Free & Reduced Lunch Application. To ensure we have a 100% response rate, we are asking every family to take one of the following actions:
- Complete the application and turn it in at next week’s parent conference.
Or
- Sign and return the cover letter stating that either:
- Your family prefers to decline the opportunity to complete the form
- Your family has already filled out the form this school year
When every family takes one of the above actions, we can ensure that our school will have the most accurate account possible of this information. Thank you for your support. This information will help our students, as well as our school.
The importance of conferences: Every Charter School has to answer the question, “What makes our school unique?” Why should parents send their students to Westlake Charter School as opposed to a traditional public school in our neighborhood? While there are many reasons listed in both our charter and in our strategic plan, many people would point to one of our four design pillars: Personalization. At Westlake Charter School, we believe that each student deserves a personalized approach to their education. This is why parent conferences are so important to our staff. When parents and teachers work together, the school is better prepared to serve your students. Although staff come to conferences prepared to present important information, they are just as eager to listen, to learn and to gain insight into how to best serve our students. We are looking forward to a 100% participation rate during next week’s parent-teacher conferences.
For Del Paso
Conferences- Next week, each Westlake family will have the opportunity to sit down with their student’s teacher and take a look at work from the first trimester. The conference will be a celebration of areas of growth, and also a time to plan for the upcoming trimester. This conference cannot happen without each family making the commitment to be there! Each trimester our teachers work tirelessly to get 100% of their families in attendance during conference week. If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment and sign up for a conference time slot. All the information you need to sign up for a conference time slot can be found by clicking this link. Currently, our Del Paso Campus has only 77% of their Parent/Teacher conferences scheduled. Sign up for your conference today!!
For Pebblewood
Conferences – All week our students will release at 12:30 PM to allow our families to come on campus to meet with our teachers. We look forward to conferences as a chance to connect about your student, to celebrate your student’s successes and set goals for his or her future. During our conferences, a portion of the conference is student-led; therefore, your student should attend the conference with you. If you have not signed up, please do so as soon as possible here. Remember, you should sign up under your advisory or homeroom teacher. This is who your conference will be held with this trimester. If you would like to meet with any other teacher on campus, please reach out to your advisor and they can arrange that. We look forward to seeing 100% of our families.
Electives – New electives will begin December 1st after we return from Thanksgiving Break.
Middle School Schedule – This week, our 6-8th-grade students will attend Blocks 1-5 all week with no advisory or elective classes due to the early out schedule.
