Hello, Explorer Families!
This is Hope Gawlick, your Westlake Charter School Board President.
The 8th annual Olympic Triathlon is officially under way! You should have received a packet in your students’ folders giving you more information about the Triathlon and the activities taking place over the next few weeks.
This is Westlake Charter’s main fundraiser and it relies on the involvement of every Explorer family. Through the Olympic Triathlon we have raised over $250,000 in the last 5 years to support our Westlake Charter School – amazing!
In the past, the Olympic Triathlon has raised money specifically to support our specialty programs. Today, as we embark on building our new home, Westlake Charter School is planning to direct Olympic Triathlon donations towards ensuring that it is able to offer a state of the art, 21st Century learning environment to our students, teachers and community! For example, and as you are probably already aware, technology is at the forefront of Westlake Charter’s commitment to personalized learning and differentiation. With this in mind, I ask that you consider collecting donations towards the support of 21st Century Classrooms for both today and the future. These classrooms will allow for further technology integration in a collaborative environment where our teachers are able to not only act as educators, but also as facilitators. Our students will be able to grow and learn in a way that permits creative expression and expands their ability to ask questions and solve problems, all while participating in the hands-on learning that makes our school so unique, including in our speciality programs.
We count on every Explorer family each year to gather sponsors and turn in donations during October and November. This year, we are shooting for 100% student participation in all grade levels. It would be great to see us set a new Olympic Record.
Please mark your calendars for Friday, November 13th. This is the big day – the Olympic Triathlon Event Day– when our students will have the opportunity to demonstrate what they’ve been learning in our specialty classes. More information on this great event will be coming home soon.
The first donation day is this Wednesday, October 28th on the Del Paso Campus with donation stations both on campus and at AIM for Walking Wednesday. Thursday, October 29th will be the first donation day on the Pebblewood Campus. Let’s help our kids gather those sponsors and acknowledge their hard work! Our school goal for 2015 is $60,000 and I know we can reach the top of the podium!
Thank you for your commitment to keeping Westlake Charter great and, as always… Let’s Explore!
