Hello Westlake Families!
We have been very busy at the middle school campus this fall. We have had a great success with our Red Ribbon week and were excited to kick it off with an assembly. We are grateful for all the WAVE parents that developed this spirit week and program for us. In addition, our 5th-8th grade students have been working very hard on the NWEA testing and we are pleased with the scores thus far. It is wonderful to be at a school where education is valued by teacher, students, and families alike. The middle school students have been busy working on a group project that thanks Reed Hastings for supporting us in the development and growth of our middle school. Student groups will present to their peers and the best will present at the next board meeting.
The Middle School campus held elections for Student Government in October and our student leaders jumped right in by planning and running part of our assembly that week. We have an excellent group of students that are full of ideas and energy. Our president is Megan Johnson, Vice President is Elizabeth Vega, Treasurer is David Dyer, and our Secretary is Francesca Street. Each 5th grade homeroom and middle school advisory class also had the option to elect a representative for Student Government. We look forward to many great events in the future.
We are excited to report that we had a very successful Chili Cook Off and want to thank all of you that volunteered, cooked, and came out to eat chili in support our students. The winning class, Mrs. Sutton’s 4th period 8th Grade Science, will have an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for how the funds raised by the event will impact the middle school campus. It is fun to have such a warm and supportive community at our school, we could not have done this without all the help.
We look forward to parent conferences November 18-22nd, as we enjoy having the family on campus to see all of the amazing things that students have been creating. We hope to see you all at the conferences.
