K-12 Announcements

Special Early Release Schedule on Wednesday, February 12th: On February 12, 2025, students will be dismissed from school at 12:00 PM. We understand the pressure this puts on families to pick up from school early, so we do not make this change lightly.

Prior to the launch of the school year, our entire staff had the opportunity to work with Dr. Sharroky Hollie, a nationally recognized educator who specializes in culturally and linguistically responsive teaching strategies. Nowhere is this work more significant and impactful than in our community which has recently been celebrated as one of the most diverse regions in the country. On February 12th, Dr. Hollie will return to Westlake Charter School to continue the work we began in the fall.

2025-26 Lottery Application Window: Our 2025-26  lottery is open now through January 31st, including our freshman, sophomore,  junior and senior classes at Westlake Charter High School! Current students do not need to fill out an application to continue their enrollment at WCS; however, siblings do need to fill out lottery applications to attend. Spread the word and encourage friends and family to visit JoinWestlake.com to apply today.

SacRT Flex – New Shared-Use Mobility Service: Sacramento Regional Transit has introduced SacRT Flex, a new shared-use mobility service.  CLICK HERE to learn more.

K-12 Talent Show Sign-Ups: We’re down to the final few days to sign up for this year’s Talent Show. This K-12 event will feature student performers from all grade levels. CLICK HERE to sign up your student by Tuesday, January 14th to showcase their talent, host or join the event crew. The event also showcases the talents of our 4th through 12th graders as event hosts, as well as the technical skills of 6th through 12th graders as stage crew. GATE Testing:  The goal of Westlake Charter School’s GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program is to provide differentiated learning opportunities during the regular school day for our students.  All current 2nd graders and referred 3rd-12th graders will be given the opportunity to take the GATE qualification test.  Parent referral forms for students currently enrolled in grades 3rd-12th will be accepted until  January 24, 2025 at 4:00 PM. 2025-26 Academic Calendar: CLICK HERE to reference the 2025-26 Academic Calendar which was approved at the WCS Board Meeting on December 12th.  The 2025-26 school year will start on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025 and end on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026.  If you have any questions regarding the calendar, please contact [email protected].

K-8 Announcements

Online Curriculum Challenge: The Minute Challenge: ‘The Minute Challenge” is in full swing!  We are aiming for all K-8 Explorers to participate in this challenge from now through February 14th.  We are encouraging students to log in and practice their math skills on our online platform called Imagine Math.  K-2 Explorers have a goal of 45 minutes per week and 3-8 Explorers have a goal of 60 minutes per week.  Every minute matters! Middle School Volleyball: Our Middle School Volleyball season is approaching. Evaluations will begin this week and are scheduled as follows:

• Sixth Grade – Monday, January 13th, 3:30 – 4:00 PM
• Seventh Grade – Wednesday, January 15th, 1:45 – 2:15 PM
• Eighth Grade – Friday, January 17th, 3:30 – 4:00 PM

Jibe Polar Paws Challenge: Students are invited to walk, bike, or scoot to school as many times as possible between Monday, January 13th and Friday, January 24th to help their class win a polar bear adoption and prize pack. The three classes with the highest participation win! By reducing car trips, you can help preserve polar bears’ sea ice homes in the Arctic. Report Cards: Report cards will be sent home to families this week. In the meantime, we encourage all families to review your child’s academic progress in the Infinite Campus parent portal.  If you need assistance with the portal, email [email protected].

Embedded Honors Course Opt-in: Beginning in 10th grade students at WCHS can opt into embedded honors courses. During the first two weeks of the semester, teachers will be sharing their honors syllabi and exposing students to honors level work.  Students may opt in to taking an honors course by using the Course Change Request form now through Tuesday, January 21st. Please note that students must be logged into their Westlake accounts to complete the form.

Senior Grad Night: Attention Seniors and Families! WCHS’s Grad Night at Disneyland is happening May 18 – 19th! This unforgettable celebration will be filled with magic, memories, and fun as our graduating class comes together to mark this milestone. Senior Financial Aid Workshop: Need support completing your student’s financial aid application? Drop in to the Commons with your student on Wednesday, January 22nd anytime between 5:00 and 7:00 PM to get support from the counseling team in completing your application. WCHS Boys Volleyball: Get ready to hit the court! WCHS Boys Volleyball is gearing up for an exciting season and we can’t wait to see you out there. WAVE Coffee Talk: Join us for the next Coffee Talk on Thursday, January 23rd at 8:30 AM in the Cafeteria on our K-8 Campus. Come for Admin updates and lively discussions with other Westlake families. Our topic will be “How do we close the gap between interest and action when supporting the school?”  As an incentive, the class with the most parents attending will get donuts on January 24th.

Kudos:  Welcome Whitney Browning to the WAVE Board! We are thrilled to announce that Whitney Browning has joined our WAVE Board as the Vice President of Parent Engagement! 🙌 With her passion for community-building, Whitney will be leading the charge to create events and engagement opportunities that foster connection and impact at Westlake.

Whitney has been an active and visible parent at Westlake for the past three years, with two children at the school. She will continue to lead the Classroom Ambassadors program and contribute to morning line-up activities, making her a key part of our community.
