Big Day of Giving: Have you heard of the Big Day of Giving? The Big Day of Giving is a 24-hour giving celebration from the Sacramento Region Community Foundation that inspires people to support causes they love in El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo counties. Does your business or employer participate? The Big Day of Giving is THIS Thursday, May 2nd. You can include our Explorers in your business’s charitable donations. Jibe Bike Doc: Westlake Charter School is partnering with North Natomas Jibe to bring the Bike Doc to our K-8 Campus on Wednesday, May 1st from 3:15 – 6:00 PM. The Bike Doc is North Natomas Jibe’s free basic bike repair and tune up service. Students and families of WCS are invited to register to bring in bicycles using Jibe’s reservation system to book a spot, or show up day-of for service – first come, first served. Limit 3 appointments per person. If you have more than one bike you want serviced, please sign up for additional appointments. CLICK HERE to book your spot today!
K-8 Announcements
Bike Month Challenge: Students celebrate May is Bike, Scoot, and Roll Month with the latest challenge from Jibe. From April 29th – May 10th, students will be tracking their daily riding trips (bike, scooter, skateboard, or skates) in class each day. Students can ride to and from school, for errands, or just for fun. All riders receive a custom keychain, and the highest participating grade wins a Kona Ice party!
Middle School Clubs: Student-led clubs started this past Tuesday! Students have the option of participating in Chess Club, Sports Club, Cooking Club, or Gaming Club during their lunch/lunch recess. Students will be able to eat their lunch as they hang out and discuss what they want to see happen with their club. Clubs will meet every Tuesday.
Middle School Flag Football: Flag Football season started this week! It’s not too late to join if your student would like to play! If you have not participated in athletics this year, please complete a participant packet. Paper copies can be picked up from the front desk or Coach Sterling. Mental Health Awareness Month: May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and from May 6th – 10th schools across California are recognizing student mental health week. Mental health specific lessons will be taught by our K-8 counselors throughout the month of May and across both campuses, middle and high school students will get to engage in fun activities during lunch time this week!
Mental Health and Social Media Family Workshop: As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, on Wednesday, May 8th from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, our counselors and school psychologist will be facilitating a workshop for parents/guardians geared at cultivating safety and good habits for their kids in the world of social media. Come for an evening of learning and collaboration. CLICK HERE to RSVP, which is encouraged but not required.

9-12 Announcements
WCHS Prom: We are looking forward to our very first WCHS Prom THIS Saturday, May 4th! This event will be for our junior class, however students can bring approved guests, including WCHS sophomores and freshmen if they have completed a guest application and it is approved. Tickets are $45 each and are currently on sale at lunch time. Adults who would like to help with set up, clean up, and donating can CLICK HERE to reach out to our Activities Director, Mrs. Grimaldi.
Prom Spirit Week: During the week leading up to Prom, April 29th – May 3rd, we will be having Prom Spirit Week. The spirit days are as follows:
- Monday: Just Got Out of Bed Day – A day when pajamas and tousled hair reign supreme, as students can embrace the cozy comfort of their morning attire
- Tuesday: Rhyme Without Reason Day – A day where students can let their creativity run wild, donning eclectic outfits that rhyme but are not related
- Wednesday: White Lie Day – A day of playful deception as students dress in outfits inspired by harmless white lies
- Thursday: Meme Day – A day filled with laughter and internet – inspired creativity as students bring popular memes to life
- Friday: Starry Night Day – A day to incorporate elements of the night sky into outfits for a celestial-themed celebration
2023-24 WCHS Yearbook: The 2023-24 WCHS Yearbooks are available for purchase now! Students and families can also add on a half-page ad or a Shout-out Message for a student. CLICK HERE to purchase your yearbook by April 29th.
Staff Appreciation Week: Staff Appreciation Week is right around the corner, May 6th – 10th. This year’s theme is “Staff Wellness”. Below is a schedule for the week.
- Friday 5/3: Deep clean and decorate the staff lounge at each campus.
- Monday 5/6: Made-to-Order Smoothie Bar. Staff will put in an order ahead of time and can pick up their custom made smoothie in the morning.
- Tuesday 5/7: Families will set up a Wellness Retreat at the K-8 campus. Staff can enjoy a mentally and physically calming experience using a combination of massage, meditation and music. On this day, our WCHS staff will enjoy a catered lunch.
- Wednesday 5/8: We will provide grab and go snacks for both campuses.
- Thursday 5/9: Our WCHS Staff can partake in the wonderful Wellness Retreat experience while our K-8 staff enjoys a catered lunch.
- Friday 5/10: A delectable chocolate bar will be set up at both campuses.

2024-25 WAVE Board Elections: Are you interested in getting more involved with the Westlake Association of Volunteer Explorers (WAVE)? Join the WAVE board and help us make the 2024-25 school year amazing! All board positions of President, Vice President of Parent Participation, Vice President of Business Affairs, Treasurer, and Secretary are coming up for election in May. Joining the WAVE Board is a great way to guide school culture and make the WCS community a wonderful place for all staff and families.
