Parent Survey: The Parent Survey is taken 3 times a year. CLICK HERE to answer six questions to rate your family’s experience at Westlake Charter School during the 2022-23 school year. The deadline is Thursday, December 16th.

Spirit Day – Pajama Day: Thursday, December 22nd is pajama day! Students and staff can show their spirit by wearing pajamas. Please remember to follow the dress code guidelines below for spirit day:

• Clothes must be free of inappropriate wording and images
• All shirts must have sleeves, no sleeveless shirts.
• All clothing must be free of rips and tears
• All clothing must fit properly. Pants around the natural waist, tops completely covering the torso area

2023-24 Lottery Application Window Now Open: Our 2023-24 lottery is now open, including our freshman, sophomore, and junior classes at Westlake Charter High School! Current students do not need to fill out an application to continue their enrollment at WCS; however, siblings do need to fill out lottery applications to attend. Spread the word and encourage friends and family to visit joinwestlake.com to apply today. 8th Grade families, we are saving your spot in 9th grade, so no need to apply, however, this spring we will reach out to ask you to formally accept your spot once the lottery has run. 

Winter Break: Both campuses and BASE will be closed for Winter Break Friday, December 23rd through Monday, January 9th. We look forward to welcoming staff and students back on Tuesday, January 10th. BASE will be open on January 9th. 

Join Our WCS Board of Directors & Board Committees: Our Board of Directors is seeking individuals mirroring the broad diversity of our community who may be interested in helping lead our school during this exciting time. We are looking for interested individuals to serve on our Governance, Finance, Development, and Impact Committees, as well as serve on our Board of Directors in 2023-24. To prepare any of our interested community members, we are launching an Onboarding Cohort beginning January 23rd. Members who join this cohort will attend 4 sessions from January to April. During this time cohort members will attend committee and board meetings, connect with a board mentor, and learn about the processes that make our governance team so successful. K-8 Announcements

Holidays Around the World: We are very excited to host our 15th annual Holidays Around the World on our K-8 campus in the coming weeks. Each classroom partners with a buddy class and collaborates to study the activities and practices of holidays from around the world. This hands on, engaging opportunity, is one in a multitude of experiences that help to raise our students as Global Citizens. 

Basketball: We finished up middle school basketball this week! We had a wonderful season and were excited to watch students participate and learn sportsmanship, communication and teamwork. 

Traffic Campaign: Thank you to the hundreds of families who park responsibly every day, to those who wait patiently to enter and exit the parking lot safely, and to each of you who slow down to keep our community safe. We see you, we know you are busy, and this collaboration takes a little extra effort, thank you for demonstrating our core value of Stewardship during arrival and dismissal.

Spelling Bee: It’s time for our annual school spelling  bee! In your student’s classroom, their teacher will be conducting a classroom spelling bee before the 14th. Classroom winners will be selected and notified before we head out to Winter break. Mark your calendars for our school spelling bee on Wednesday, January 25th.

9-12 Announcements

End of Semester Update: Our semester at the high school will come to a close on December 22nd.  Report cards will be mailed home on January 13th after grades have been finalized. You can log into Otus to check your students grades 

Winter Sports Information: CLICK HERE for the information from our December 5th Winter Sports Meeting.  This meeting was for the families of all basketball and Esports athletes.

Community Night Committee: We are excited to begin planning events like movie night and science night at both of our campuses. We are looking for a group to help us make these events possible by planning and organizing these important community events. Staff Appreciation Committee: Our Staff Appreciation Committee  is planning monthly staff appreciation events and needs your help to make it possible. We are in need of ideas, donations, planning, and set-up. Please CLICK HERE to sign up to join the committee. Thank you!

Kudos: What a week! Thank you to all of the families who joined us for our monthly WAVE meeting and Coffee Talk last week. These meetings are a great place to ask questions, share ideas, celebrate, and learn how to get involved. We hope to see you in January!
