School-wide Great Kindness Challenge: During the week of January 27th through January 31st, students are challenged to be kind to those around them and in their community. One of the ways the students can show kindness in their community is to donate canned or dry food goods to Joey’s Food Locker. Joey’s Food Locker provides local residents with canned or dried foods, while volunteer-students develop skills needed to join the workforce. Donation bins will be located in the front office and in both BASE rooms, B109 and D110, from January 27th through January 31st.
GATE Testing: The goal of the Westlake Charter School’s GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Program is to provide differentiated learning opportunities during the regular school day for our students. All current 2nd graders and referred 3rd-8th graders will be given the opportunity to take the GATE qualification test. Referral forms for students currently enrolled in grades 3rd-8th will be accepted from January 6, 2020 – January 31, 2020. Click HERE for the parent referral form. Previously identified students for GATE do not need to go through the process again.
Progress Reports: Mid-Trimester Progress Reports will be come home on Friday, January 17th. Please take the time to review your child’s Progress Report and return the cover page signed by Friday, January 24th.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day – No School: Monday, January 20th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and there will be no school. BASE will also be closed.
Geography Bee: The National Geographic Geography Bee will take place on February 5th. The Bee is an opportunity for 4th-8th grade Explorers who are interested in geography to show off their skills. Click HERE to register your student to participate in the Geography Bee.
