Welcome Assistant Principal Whitney O’Hagan: Click HERE for an introduction to our new Assistant Principal, Whitney O’Hagan. Mrs. O’Hagan has been with Westlake Charter School for over 10 years and is excited to serve in this new capacity.
Talent Show Sign-Ups – Due Monday 1/13: Click HERE to sign up to audition to be a host, perform a talent, be part of the stage crew team, or participate in the K-8 Explorer Group Dance!

- Please be sure to sign up for the area your student is most interested in participating in. After January 13th, students will not be able to move to another area of the Talent Show.
Explorer Athletics (Middle School): Practices for both girls and boys Basketball start next week! If your student attended a clinic this week, he/she has been placed on a team and you should have received an email with the team’s schedule. Practice days are consistent, but game days vary due to scheduling. Practices and games last from 3:25 – 4:15 every day except Wednesdays.

8th Grade Family Info Night: 8th Grade Families, please plan to join us for 8th Grade Information Night on Tuesday, January 14th at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria. We will discuss the details surrounding all of the 8th-grade end of year events such as our Santa Cruz trip, 8th-grade Dinner, and Promotion. We hope to have all 8th grade families in attendance.
Prospective Parent Tour: We will have an open campus observation day on Thursday, January 16th, 2020 for our Prospective Families. There are 2 tour times: 9:00am and 1:00pm. Each guided tour takes approximately 1 hour. No appointment is necessary. Please make arrangements for childcare for your children as this is a parent only observation. We will also have an information night where application assistance will be available on January 16th at 6:00 PM. Remember – the deadline to apply for the 2020-2021 lottery is January 31 at 4:00 PM. Progress Reports: Mid-Trimester Progress Reports will be come home on Friday, January 17th. Please take the time to review your child’s Progress Report and return the cover page signed by Friday, January 24th.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day – No School: Monday, January 20th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and there will be no school. BASE will also be closed.
Science Fair: Our Middle School Science Fair is on Thursday, January 23rd from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Come check out all our explorers have learned through their experiments!
Clubs: Do you have a passion you’d like to share with our Explorers? Or maybe you’re looking for a fun way to earn volunteer hours? Look no further! Our winter session of AS Live Clubs is February 3 – March 6. We’re looking for adult volunteers to lead clubs or chaperone clubs lead by middle school students. Parents Go To School Night: Save the date for one of our favorite events, Parents Go To School Night. This event will take place on February 12th. BASE will be offered to WCS students at no charge for the evening. Click HERE to RSVP.

Lottery Application Period: Our 2020-21 Lottery is now open! Visit joinwestlake.com to complete the application by January 31, 2020 at 4:00pm. Current students do not need to fill out an application to continue their enrollment at WCS; however, siblings do need to fill out lottery applications to attend. Please share this information with friends and family who are interested in attending Westlake Charter School

Health & Wellness Fair: It is January which means it is the perfect time to focus on our health. Please join us on Wednesday, January 15th from 6-8pm for a fun and engaging evening of family health and wellness. The incredibly popular Chef Ravin Patel is back to demonstrate more options for healthy and delicious meals that the entire family will love. You can try out some fun family fitness, learn a little bit about self defense, hear about heart health from The American Heart Association, participate in urban gardening and more. You do not want to miss this fantastic event!
My Princess and Me Dance: Tickets are selling quickly for the 8th Annual My Princess & Me Dance. This incredible night takes place on February 1st from 6 to 8pm at Westlake Charter School. A royal attendant is invited to escort their princess(es) to a magical event full of dancing, desserts, photos and more! The My Princess & Me Dance is the perfect opportunity for girls ages 4-13 to spend a memorable evening with a loved one.

Ono Hawaiian BBQ Family Night Out Fundraiser: Please save the date for our next Family Night Out Fundraiser. Enjoy dinner at Ono Hawaiian BBQ on January 21st from 5-8pm, show them this printed FLYER and WAVE will receive 30% of the proceeds. It is a great way to support a local business while supporting our school and enjoying dinner out with our Westlake Charter Community!
Kudos: We are so thankful for our BASE program which is available to all students each and every day. There is no waiting list, families only pay for the time they use and the staff has created a variety of enriching activities for attendees. Thank you to our BASE staff for all of their hard work and dedication.
