stop2 stop1 stop3 In 7th grade science, the students used stop-motion animation, which is a series of photos strung together to show a process of motion. Students used the stop-motion process to show Mitosis and Meiosis in action.
8th graders spend the year learning about U.S. history in class. For the last three years, Westlake has been able to send a group of 8th graders to explore that history in person. The group this year took a week of their Spring break to explore the vibrant history of our nation’s capital and New York City. Students started their journey on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. They toured Washington DC for three days, visiting Mt. Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, Smithsonian museums, and much more. They entered Manhattan on a ferry from New Jersey, stopping at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. They finished their journey with a viewing of Lion King on Broadway and a stroll through Central Park. We look forward to another trip next year! DC4 DC3 DC2 DC1
naturebowl Our Westlake students represented well this week at the Nature Bowl. The Nature Bowl is an annual science-based educational program for 3rd – 6th graders that increases ecological knowledge and conservation literacy. In team settings, students eagerly learn about the environment while building teamwork skills and sharpening their creative and critical thinking abilities. The program curriculum corresponds with California’s “Next Generation” Science Standards, which makes it a popular event for teachers and educators. Nature Bowl, currently in its 31st year, is coordinated by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and partner organizations.
