Back to School Shopping: We know many families are starting to think about Back to School shopping. Here are a few guidelines to help:
- School Supplies: Each grade level has purchased all the school supplies that your students will need for the entire year. We get a great discount as a school, so we like to purchase everything in advance. We ask each student for a $35 donation toward school supplies. CLICK HERE to donate toward school supplies and grade level field lessons.
- Field Lessons: On the same page, you can take care of your field lesson donations for the year! There are options for a one-time payment, or monthly subscription.
Free and Reduced Price Meals: Families, each year it is incredibly important to our school that we are able to account for every student during this form collection process. We are authorized by the Natomas Unified School District and as a part of our partnership, we commit to collecting these forms from every family. Physical copies of the 2025-26 application will be available at Meet the Teacher. Please complete this form for every student in your family and return it to either front office. While meals remain free for all students this school year, this is important data for our Charter authorization.
- CLICK HERE to complete the Free and Reduced Price Meals (FRPM) acknowledgement form which will allow us to ensure everyone has received this information. Even if you don’t think you qualify for free or reduced priced meals, please complete the form for our tracking purposes.
- CLICK HERE to complete the FRPM application online.
SUN Bucks: SUN Bucks is California’s new Summer EBT program, providing $120 per eligible student to help families buy groceries.
- Families who qualified through direct certification or by submitting a Free/Reduced meal application during the 2024–25 school year may have already received a card this summer.
- Families who didn’t apply last year can still qualify for both Summer 2025 and Summer 2026 if they submit a 2025–26 Free and Reduced Price Meals application by September 2, 2025 (and are income eligible).

School Uniforms/Dress Code: Westlake Charter School has adopted school uniforms as a means of enhancing positive interaction between students and eliminating issues surrounding attire. Uniforms are to be worn Monday – Thursday. On Fridays, blue jeans and a spirit shirt or a college-logo printed shirt can be worn. Each student will be provided a spirit shirt at the beginning of the year. This dress code and uniform guideline applies during school hours and extracurricular events, whereby the student is representing WCS. CLICK HERE for all the details.
Uniform Swap: Our WAVE team is coordinating a uniform swap during Meet the Teacher! If you have gently used or new uniforms that no longer fit your Explorer, bring them to Meet the Teacher! They will be available for all families during the event. If you’re in need of uniforms throughout the school year, CLICK HERE to use the new WAVE Uniform Swap system.
Seventh Grade TDAP: 7th grade families – if you haven’t already turned in your proof of the TDAP immunization, please email it to [email protected] or turn it into the front office at Meet the Teacher. As a reminder, 7th-grade students will not be able to attend school without this immunization.
Sixth Grade Orientation: On Tuesday, August 12th, from 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM, our WEB Leaders are hosting an orientation for all incoming 6th graders. This event is for 6th-grade students only. As part of the orientation, we will provide pizza lunch for all 6th graders and their leaders. At 12:30 PM, families are welcome to join us on campus for Meet the Teacher! Email [email protected] with any questions about orientation.
Arrival & Dismissal Reminders/FAQs: When dropping off or picking up students, please help keep our Explorers safe by pulling forward as far as possible and remaining in your vehicle. Staff will help your student to and from your car if needed. We appreciate your support on this. Please be respectful and mindful of others during our arrival and dismissal process. Following traffic laws is an essential part of maintaining a safe environment for children. This includes parking in designated areas, adhering to the instructions of school staff, and obeying traffic laws. Traffic rules help to ensure that students are not in harm’s way when they are entering and exiting vehicles. When drivers obey traffic laws, they are less likely to be in an accident or cause a disruption in the flow of traffic. Additionally, traffic laws help to reduce congestion and provide a safe environment for pedestrians.
- CLICK HERE for the Arrival and Dismissal Quick Glance.
- Please Note: The K-8 Parking Lot is for staff only from the hours of 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM, as the number of staff has increased resulting in our allocated parking spots being fully occupied. CLICK HERE to visit the parking section on our Ways to Westlake website for more information.
- Walking School Bus: Join our daily Walking School Bus! The adult supervised walk departs from Burberry Park, Monday-Friday, rain or shine. Students can be dropped off between 7:45 and 8am to allow plenty of time to safely walk to our K-8 campus. Not only do families avoid and decrease congestion near campus, but students also earn points to use towards prizes. We need volunteers to walk and check students in near our campus entrances. Please e-mail [email protected] to get involved today!
- School Dismissal Manager: Please CLICK HERE log into School Dismissal Manager using the credentials emailed to you. You will be prompted to change your password on your first login. After logging in, click on the Parent Welcome Letter in the top menu for instructions. Make sure to update your students’ dismissal arrangements before the first day of school. - The gate to the Commons closes at 8:30 AM. Students arriving after this time must enter through the front of campus to receive a late pass before going to class.
- For pick-up, families may use the turn-around at the back of campus or arrange to meet students in alternate locations, such as the parking lot by Sprouts or across East Commerce in the Denny’s parking lot.
- Choosing an alternate pick-up or drop-off spot can help avoid high-traffic areas near campus.
- Please drive safely and watch for other cars and students exiting vehicles.
Student Parking:
- Student parking is located near the entrance of the parking lot, in front of Mattress Firm.
- Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Students will need to wait for the dismissal line to clear before they can exit their parking spaces.
- Students, families, and visitors may not park in the marked spaces in front of the Heroic store. These spots are reserved for Heroic customers.
- Students, families, and visitors may not park in staff parking. These spots are reserved for WCS staff only during school hours.
Safety Reminders for Drop-Off & Pick-Up:
- No drop-off or pick-up on East Commerce — cars travel over 50 mph here, making it very dangerous.
- Dropping off at the red light on East Commerce is also unsafe and not permitted.
- Please follow the designated traffic flow for arrival and dismissal to keep all students safe.

Welcome to the Westlake Association of Volunteer Explorers, otherwise known as WAVE. Every family is automatically a member and there are no dues or applications to join. We work together with our school to build community, fundraise, and support our students. We have meetings throughout the year to discuss volunteer needs, upcoming events, fundraising, and so much more. Additionally, we host mixers and info sessions to inform and engage our parent community. Come on out and get involved at our next WAVE Meeting.
WAVE Meetings: WAVE meetings are a great time to meet other Westlake families, learn more about our parent group and upcoming events, ask questions, and find out how to get involved in our amazing community.
WAVE Coffee Talk: Coffee Talks happen on the first Friday of each month, bringing together families, WAVE, and Westlake leadership to share updates, ask questions, and discuss what’s happening at our school. Think of it as our version of a town hall! Our default location will be the K–8 Library, but we occasionally host Coffee Talks at the high school or other locations throughout the school year. Please join us on Friday, August 15th at 8:30 AM in the Library at the K-8 campus. We are looking forward to making this year great with you!
WAVE Instagram & Facebook Group: Please follow our new WAVE Instagram account – @westlakewave. This will be a great place to get information, share memories, and create a stronger community. We hope to get to 500 followers by the end of the month.
WAVE also has a private Facebook Group which is a fantastic resource for our families. The page is full of questions, ideas, pictures, and more. Please CLICK HERE to join the page. Facebook has added a new security feature which will require new group members to complete a questionnaire to be admitted to the group.
