August Opportunities to Collaborate:
Connect: Start the year off right, show up to a WCHS Athletics match, mingle with other families at Morning Line-up, and make connections that will fuel your year!
Engage: Begin the year “in the know” by reading the Westlake Weekly every Sunday for the first month of school. Make it a habit so you know what is coming!
Contribute: At WCS, Field Lessons are for every student at every grade level! When every family contributes through donations, fundraising, and referring business sponsors for our Field Lessons and School Supplies Drive, it allows the school to continue funding high value initiatives like small class sizes and joyful learning opportunities.
Celebrations

Our K-8 Back to School Night, including the three Town Hall sessions, were a wonderful time for the entire community. Thank you to all of our families that came out to connect and engage, making our evening a huge success! And, thank you to our amazing K-8 staff for kicking off the 2026-27 school year on the right foot.

We’re thrilled to kick off Flex Blocks at Westlake Charter High School! Students hit the ground running from day one, and set a strong tone from the start. Flex Blocks are now buzzing with opportunities — from honors seminars, enrichment, and academic re-engagement support. A huge thank you to our WCHS teachers for diving in and making this year’s Flex Block launch such a success!

This week’s Grade Level Field Lesson & School Supplies Donations Competition winner is Third Grade with the most business referrals! Overall, Westlake Charter Families have raised 17.08% of our K-12 Goal. Congratulations, and keep those donations coming so we can continue to send our Explorers out on engaging field lessons every year!

Attendance Campaign: We are excited to launch a new year with our attendance letters and digital communication campaign to engage, educate, and celebrate attendance with your family!
Our goal is to build a strong culture of achievement, starting with the habit of showing up. Regular attendance helps students succeed academically and socially. Throughout the year, we’ll connect in various ways:
- Recognizing students with 95% or higher attendance
- Notifying families when absences are higher than the average
- Celebrating attendance improvements
- Identifying when students may benefit from additional support
Please be on the lookout for our emails, letters and texts—these messages are meant to support you. We will be sharing helpful, positive information so our children can thrive. We believe that together, we can strengthen our partnership and ensure all of our students have the opportunity to succeed.
Employment Opportunities: Westlake Charter School is looking for innovative, collaborative, positive staff members with a growth mindset to fill open positions for the 2026-27 school year; specifically Student Support Services Instructional Aides, a PE Aide, Program Aides, and Substitute Teachers. Do you know someone who would be a good fit for Westlake Charter School? Have them visit wcsinfo.cc/hiring to see these and other open positions.
Free and Reduced Priced Meals: Good news! This year, we qualify to complete the SHORT form for Free and Reduced Priced Meals (FRPM). Each year it is incredibly important to our school that we are able to account for every student during this form collection process. We are authorized by the Natomas Unified School District and as a part of our partnership, we commit to collecting these forms from every family. This quick form plays an important role in determining how much funding our schools receive. Every completed form helps ensure Natomas Unified receives the full funding our students deserve. When forms are not submitted, schools can miss out on valuable resources. Even if you believe your family may not qualify, your response still makes a difference. CLICK HERE to complete the 2026-2027 Educational Benefit Form.
Family Handbooks: Please be sure to CLICK HERE to read our WCS K-8 Family Handbook and/or CLICK HERE to read our WCHS Family Handbook. Our Family Handbooks include important information such as our WCS Core Values, dress code information, attendance, health and safety protocols, and so much more.
Home Game Expectations Reminders: When high school home athletic games are taking place, our K–8 campus is closed. This includes all play structures, outdoor basketball courts, classrooms, and any other area of campus that are not the gym or the outdoor covered dining area adjacent to the gym. Your cooperation helps us maintain a secure environment and create a positive experience for our athletes and visiting families. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community!
Suicide Prevention: September is Suicide Prevention Month. Throughout this month, our counseling staff will launch our suicide prevention week of activities for our middle and high school Explorers. Grades 6th – 12th will have lunch activities as well as visits from the counseling team during their Advisory periods. We recognize the sensitive nature of the topic of suicide and we are glad to have the opportunity to inform and educate our students so that they are safe. If you have questions or concerns about your student, please contact our Director of Student Support Services, Katie Davis, at [email protected].

Traffic/Parking Reminders: Please be respectful and mindful during our arrival and dismissal process. Following traffic rules is an essential part of maintaining a safe environment for children. This includes parking in designated areas, adhering to the instructions of school staff, and obeying traffic laws. Traffic laws help to ensure that students are not in harm’s way when they are entering and exiting vehicles. When drivers obey traffic laws, they are less likely to be in an accident or cause a disruption in the flow of traffic. Additionally, traffic laws help to reduce congestion and provide a safe environment for pedestrians.
