Mental Health Awareness Month: May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and during the week of May 12th – 16th Westlake is recognizing student mental health week. Mental health specific lessons will be taught by our K-8 counselors throughout the month of May and across both campuses, and middle and high school students will get to engage in fun activities during lunch time this week!

K-8 Announcements

K-8 Open House: Our K-8 Open House is THIS Wednesday, May 13th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM. We are excited for you to come and experience all that your student(s) have been learning about this year, including in their specialty classes of Spanish, Art, & PE.

Sixth Grade Shadow Day: THIS Friday, May 16th fifth grade students  will tour middle school led by our 8th Grade WEB leaders. Fifth graders walk away with a better idea of what to expect as a middle schooler and see where key classrooms and spaces are located.  Students will also be able to ask questions and get real answers from fellow students.

Spirit Shirt Contest – Submissions Due Friday, May 23rd: It’s time for Westlake to pick the student drawing for next year’s Friday spirit shirt! This contest is open to all Westlake Charter School students. On an 8.5×11 sheet of paper, students should draw a black and white picture of what Westlake means to them. Students should make sure their drawing includes the school name. Email submissions to [email protected] or turn it into the front office. All entries must be received by Friday, May 23rd. Winners will be announced in the Family Weekly on June 1st.

Summer BASE Registration – Open Now!! We’re getting ready for an exciting Summer BASE Program and would love to get a head start on planning! This will help us get an estimated number so we can properly staff and plan.

Free Dance Class for 5th – 8th Grade Explorers: One of our talented parents has volunteered her time to host a FREE Dance Class for 5-8th grade Explorers.  If you love to dance, perform, and have fun — this is your chance to learn and create awesome routines!  This engaging class will help build coordination, confidence and creativity — all while having a great time! 9-12 Announcements

Juniors – CAASPP Testing: Our 11th grade Explorers will take their final CAASPP test (Science) on Wednesday, May 14th. It’s essential that students are present and on time for each testing day. This is an important opportunity for our students to demonstrate all they’ve learned. Please make sure they get plenty of rest the night before and come to school with their school-issued Chromebook fully charged. Let’s work together to set our students up for success—encourage your student to give their best effort, stay focused, and take pride in showing what they know.

WCHS Open House: Save the date for our WCHS Open House on Wednesday, May 21st from 5:30 – 7:00 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to connect with teachers, staff, and other families while gaining insight into your child’s educational journey.

Graduation Day – Tuesday,  June 3rd – WCHS Early Dismissal at 12:00 PM: To allow our staff and students time to prepare for our Class of 2025 Graduation Ceremony, we will have an early dismissal at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, June 3rd. Thank you for your support as we get ready to celebrate this exciting milestone with our graduating seniors!

Parent Engagement Opportunities: WAVE representatives will be at K-8 Open Houses on Wednesday, May 14th and WCHS Open House on Wednesday, May 21st! Look for us at several school entrances—we’ll be there to answer your questions about WAVE and share fun, meaningful ways to get involved. Looking ahead, our next big volunteer opportunity will be Field Day in June, where we’ll need dozens of volunteers across both campuses to help bring the fun!

WAVE Leadership Openings: We still have several open leadership positions for the upcoming school year and would love to have you join the team! These roles will be appointed and do not require a vote from the membership:
