This week, our K-8 Explorers celebrated The Great Kindness Challenge!  Kindergarten through 8th grade Explorers participated in Morning Meeting and Advisory activities and a Kindness Carnival all focused on bringing kindness to their friends, family, community, environment, and themselves!

Thirty-five students participated and really impressed everyone with their S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G abilities! Congratulations to our Spelling Bee winner, Eighth Grade Explorer Mizy Quiambao who will be moving on to the next round of Spelling Bee competition!

Board Resolution Regarding School as a Safe Haven: In light of the new Federal Executive Orders related to immigration, Westlake Charter School would like to reiterate our commitment to the success of all students.

As stated in our Safe Haven Resolution adopted by our Board on April 6, 2017, under the law, all students have the right to attend public school and enjoy access to equitable educational and programmatic services regardless of the immigration status of the student.

Westlake Charter School is a safe and welcoming place for all students and their families.  In the event that immigration agencies request information or come to a school site unannounced, we shall take all necessary actions to support our students, families and community.

WCHS STEM Career Night: Is your Middle or High School Explorer interested in a career in the STEM field? Join us on Tuesday, January 28th from 5:30 – 6:30 PM in the WCHS Gym for our first ever STEM Career Night to learn about a variety of different career fields. CLICK HERE for details.

2025-26 Lottery – Application Deadline January 31st: Our 2025-26 lottery will close on Friday, January 31st at 4:00 PM! Current students do not need to fill out an application to continue their enrollment at WCS; however, siblings do need to fill out lottery applications to attend. Spread the word and encourage friends and family to visit joinwestlake.com to apply today. 8th Grade families, we are saving your spot in 9th grade, so no need to apply.  However, this spring we will reach out to ask you to formally accept your spot once the lottery has run. 

Talent Show: You are invited! Join us in the K-8 gymnasium on Friday, February 7th @ 6:00 PM for our K-12 Talent Show! Come show your WCS spirit by supporting our performers! Don’t miss the amazing staff dance! The event is free to attend.

Lost and Found: The Lost & Found at each campus is overflowing with jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles and more! K-8 families: Swing by to check for missing items  behind the Admin Building during conference week.  WCHS students: Look in the Commons during arrival, lunch, and dismissal.  All unclaimed items will be donated over February  Break.

K-8 Announcements

Walk to School Program Volunteers: Families, we are looking for volunteers to help check students in on campus and supervise our Walking School Bus. Our Walk to School Program helps students arrive to class more alert, energized, and ready to learn while minimizing traffic and long drop-off lines. You can help build community by volunteering two mornings per week on campus or with the Walking School Bus. This is a great opportunity to help students have a great start to their day! Online Curriculum Challenge: The Minute Challenge: ‘The Minute Challenge”continues!!  We are aiming for all K-8 Explorers to participate in this challenge from now through February 14th.  We are encouraging students to log in and practice their math skills on our online platform called Imagine Math.  K-2 Explorers have a goal of 45 minutes per week and 3-8 Explorers have a goal of 60 minutes per week.  Every minute matters! 8th Grade Information Night: Please join our principals, Mrs. Ghalambor and Ms. McIver, for the eighth grade Parent Information Night on Thursday, January 30th at 6:00 PM. We will meet in the Campus Commons on our High School campus located at 4400 East Commerce Way. Our 8th grade families will learn about end-of-year activities including the Santa Cruz Trip, promotion requirements, the 8th grade dance, and more!

2nd Annual WAVE Family Dance – Pajama Jammie Jam: The WAVE Family Dance is coming up on Saturday, February 1st at 6:00 PM and we need your help to make it an unforgettable evening for our Westlake K-8 families!

This beloved event is all about fun, connection, and creating lasting memories—but we can’t do it without our amazing volunteers. Here’s how you can pitch in:

  • Decorations Crew (1:00 – 3:00 PM): Help transform the space into a magical setting.
  • Activity Monitors (5:30 – 7:30 PM): Keep things running smoothly and ensure everyone has a great time.
  • Cleanup Crew (7:00 – 8:30 PM): Help us wrap up by taking down decorations and tidying up.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to be part of our community and make a difference for our families. Whether you can help for an hour or a few, your support will go a long way in making this night extra special!

Save the Date – SAT for Juniors – Wednesday, March 12th: Our 11th grade students will have the opportunity to take the SAT here on campus during the school day on Wednesday, March 12th.  Unlike the PSAT, when all students took the test unless they opted out, students will only take the SAT if they submit a form opting in. CLICK HERE to opt in to have  your Junior take the SAT on March 12th. Students must be opted in by Monday, February 10th at 5:00 PM.
