Our middle school run club showed their Explorer pride last weekend by representing Westlake Charter School in the Gold Country 5K Run. Thank you to the parents that supported their students by getting them there bright and early!

Thank you to the staff, students, and families who made the Block Party possible!  Our amazing Activities Director Abby Grimaldi organized an event where our 9th graders all found a place to have fun.

Our 5th graders went to the Effie Yeaw Nature Center on a field lesson to enrich their science curriculum. The field lesson consisted of on campus learning, then went out to wade in the pond to see the ecosystems in action!

WAVE – Coffee Talk – In person: Tuesday, May 24th at 8:30 AM join us for our last in-person K-12 Coffee Talk of the year! We will meet in the covered dining area at our K-8 campus. This is a great opportunity to hear from our admin team and WAVE parent leaders, as well as ask questions and give feedback. 

High School Open House Wednesday, May 25th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM: We are excited to host our first annual WCHS Open house on Wednesday, May 25th! This will feel different from a traditional K-8 Open House as it is designed to show the different elements of our High School Program. Join us in the Oasis and Commons where staff members will host booths showcasing their core subjects, as well as electives and clubs. Families will also have a chance to take a tour of the interior of the campus. Our amazing Planting a Revolution elective is providing snacks to participants. We can’t wait to showcase and celebrate an incredible first year. 

WCHS Assistant Principal: We are excited to announce Lila McIver has accepted the position to be our Westlake Charter High School Assistant Principal starting in the 2022-23 school year! Mrs. McIver comes with elementary, middle school, and high school experience and has served on our Westlake Charter School Board of Directors. She has created incredible relationships with our students in her current position of High School MTSS TOSA. We can’t wait to see her continue to support our students, staff, and families in her new role as Assistant Principal of WCHS! 

K-8 Assistant Principal: Huge thank you to Mrs. O’Hagan for all that she has given to Westlake Charter School as a teacher, TOSA, and K-8 Assistant Principal. Mrs. O’Hagan will not return next year as our K-8 Assistant Principal as she will be taking time to be with her amazing family. Allison Chavez has accepted the position of K-8 Assistant Principal. Mrs. Chavez has elementary and middle school experience, as well as administrative experience in her current role as Coordinator of School Programs and has served on our Westlake Charter School Board of Directors. Congratulations, Mrs. Chavez!

9th Grade Course Selection:  All incoming Westlake Charter High School 9th graders are invited to join the high school team for 9th grade course selection on Tuesday May 24th from 6:00-7:30 PM.  During this event families will learn more about our high school schedule and also our 

Memorial Day: There will be no school on Monday, May 30th in observance of Memorial Day.  BASE will be closed as well.

Spirit Shirt Contest – due Friday, May 27th: It’s time for Westlake to pick the student drawing for next year’s Friday spirit shirt! This contest is open to all Westlake Charter School students. On an 8.5×11 sheet of paper, students should draw a black and white picture of what Westlake means to them. Make sure your drawing includes the school name. Email submissions to [email protected] or turn it into the front office. All entries must be received by Friday, May 27th. Winners will be announced in the Parent Weekly on June 5th. 

Yearbook Orders: The 2021-2022 Westlake Charter School  yearbooks are available to order! The K8 yearbook cost is $20 and the High School yearbook cost is $25. We have a limited quantity so don’t delay in placing your order!

  • K-8: CLICK HERE to order your K-8 yearbook. Yearbook orders must be placed by May 23rd. Yearbooks are expected to be delivered to students on campus on June 6th.
  • High School: CLICK HERE to order your High School yearbook. Yearbook orders must be placed by May 31st.

School Start and End Times 2022/23: Following Senate Bill 328, our high school start time will push back starting the 2022-23 school year. Please see grade level regular day start and end times below:

  • Kindergarten: 8:30 AM – 2:45 PM
  • 1st-5th Grade: 8:30 AM – 3:15 PM
  • 6th-8th Grade: 8:15 AM – 3:15 PM
  • 9th-10th Grade: 8:30 AM – 3:45 PM

BASE Summer Camp Registration: Great news! We have enough interested families to open a BASE summer camp! For planning purposes, kindly CLICK HERE to register any WCS students who will be joining us this summer. Please complete one form for each student. Email [email protected] with any questions.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Dates: Monday-Friday,  June 13th – July 1th and July 11th – August 5
  • Hours: 8:00am-6:00pm
  • Rates: $8.50 hourly with a $60 daily maximum per student
  • Pre-payment is not required for attendance and drop-ins are welcome.

Reporting COVID-19 Positive Tests and Exposure: If your student has tested positive to COVID-19, or has been exposed to someone who tested positive off campus, please CLICK HERE to complete this form and our contact tracing team will follow up. 

COVID Symptoms: If your student has any COVID-19 symptoms, please keep them home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. Symptoms include: Fever over 100.4, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, muscle/body aches, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell. If your student has any of those symptoms, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours and email [email protected] to report their absence.

Volunteer Hours Log: Now is the time to log all of your hard earned hours for the 2021-22 school year. Hours can be logged for attending WAVE meetings, chaperoning field lessons, volunteering at International Festival, attending Coffee Talks, preparing class work at home or any other activity supporting Westlake Charter School.  Logging hours not only goes hand in hand with our Westlake Charter School Mission, but it is an integral part of the Charter Renewal process. Kudos: Open House at the K-8 was fantastic! Thank you to teachers and staff for opening the classrooms and allowing students to guide their families through a typical day. Families also loved visiting Art, Spanish and P.E. classrooms throughout the evening. It was wonderful to see our K-8 campus full of smiling families and staff!
