2nd Grade Difference Makers: Wow! What an incredible morning watching our 2nd graders shine as they shared about the many difference makers in history.  The students were prepared, well spoken, brave and excited to present to their audiences.  Great job, Explorers and 2nd Grade teachers.

Meet our new K-8 Principal: Congratulations to our current K-8 Principal, Mrs. Callau, for returning to her role as the Westlake Charter Director of Curriculum and Instruction in the fall of 2022. Now, after a competitive search, we are proud to introduce to our community, our new K-8 Principal – Mrs. Jessica Ghalambor! CLICK HERE to meet our new K-8 Principal who will begin in the fall of 2022!

Spring Break and Staff workday: Westlake Charter School will be closed April 11th –  April 19th for Spring Break. Tuesday, April 19th will be a teacher work day, there will be no school for students.

  • BASE will be closed the first week of Spring Break. We will be open on Monday, April 18th and Tuesday, April 19th. CLICK HERE to let us know if your student will be joining us on the 18th or 19th.

CAASPP Testing:  Our statewide testing window will take place between April 25th-May 31st for our 3rd-8th grade students.  CLICK HERE for our annual notification letter with more testing information.

Afterschool Bike Club with Jibe: 5th, 6th, and 7th graders – are you interested in riding your bike after school with Jibe? If so, CLICK HERE for more information about the program and to sign up. Email Allison Chavez with questions: [email protected].

International Festival: The 17th Annual International Festival is quickly approaching  on Saturday, April 30th. We need your help to make this event amazing for our community.

  • Cultural booth hosts may provide a small sampling of native cuisine, cultural artifacts, a children’s activity/game and/or anything else you would like to demonstrate or display. The booth can be as simple or complex as you would like. We would love to have as many cultures represented as possible.

  • We are in need of volunteers and donations to make the Festival amazing for our community. Can you donate chips or drinks? Are you available to grill hot dogs for an hour? Can you lend a pop-up tent or cooler? Please CLICK HERE to sign up to help! 

BASE – Summer Planning: We are in the beginning stages of planning for BASE over summer break and we need your input. Please CLICK HERE to let us know if the student(s) in your family would attend a BASE summer camp. If enough families are interested, we’ll send registration information in the coming weeks.

Open House: Save the Date for the K-8th Open House on Wednesday, May 18th and High School Open House on Wednesday, May 25th.  More details in the Westlake Weekly newsletter after spring break.  

8th Grade Parent Night: Gearing Up for High School: 8th grade families had an opportunity to hear from our counseling team about scheduling and graduation requirements for Westlake Charter High School students.  If you weren’t able to attend this informative session, CLICK HERE for a recording. Reporting COVID-19 Positive Tests and Exposure: If your student has tested positive to COVID-19, or has been exposed to someone who tested positive off campus, please CLICK HERE to complete this form and our contact tracing team will follow up. 

Walking and Bike to School Volunteers  Needed: We are in need of adult volunteers to join our daily Walking School Bus and scan student cards on campus. Can you walk to school with your student and other Explorers 1-5 mornings a week? Can you scan student cards near the Maybrook gate in the mornings? It is a fantastic way to start the day and volunteer with students. Please email [email protected] to get started.

COVID Symptoms: If your student has any COVID-19 symptoms, please keep them home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. Symptoms include: Fever over 100.4, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, muscle/body aches, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell. If your student has any of those symptoms, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours and email [email protected] to report their absence. 

Help Needed!:  As we begin to re-launch popular events like the International Festival and create new events which interest our community, we need your help. All of these events and activities require dozens of volunteers. We need your help to make these events possible and successful. Please reach out to [email protected] to get involved or share your ideas for the 22/23 school year. 

WAVE Board Elections: Help us make the 22-23 school year amazing by joining the WAVE Board. All board positions of President, Vice President of Business Operations, Vice President of Parent Participation, Treasurer and Secretary are coming up for election in May.
