BASE opened up the school day with a dance contest to get our bodies moving in the morning and warmed up for a day of learning!

Our TA (Teacher Assistant) elective is so fun.  Our incredible TA’s support teachers and students K-5 by helping with kinder dismissal, reading with a 2nd grader, etc.  It is wonderful to see Kinder-8th graders working together around campus!

Spring Break and Staff workday: Westlake Charter School will be closed April 11th –  April 19th for Spring Break. Tuesday, April 19th will be a teacher work day, there will be no school for students.

  • BASE will be closed the first week of Spring Break. We will be open on Monday, April 18th and Tuesday, April 19th. CLICK HERE to let us know if your student will be joining us on the 18th or 19th.

K-8 Lost & Found: Our lost and found is overflowing. Now that campus is open to families at arrival and dismissal, we encourage families to stop by the lost and found behind the admin building to look for any of their student’s missing items before Spring Break. All items that are in the Lost and Found will be donated over spring break. 

CAASPP Testing:  Our statewide testing window will take place between April 25th-May 31st for our 3rd-8th grade students.  CLICK HERE for our annual notification letter with more testing information.

Afterschool Bike Club with Jibe: 5th, 6th, and 7th graders – are you interested in riding your bike after school with Jibe? If so, CLICK HERE for more information about the program and to sign up. Email Allison Chavez with questions: [email protected].

International Festival: Save the date for our annual  International Festival on Saturday, April 30th. The highlight of our International Festival are the Cultural Booths hosted by WCS families. We are in need of booth hosts to make this event a success!

  • Cultural booth hosts may provide a small sampling of native cuisine, cultural artifacts, a children’s activity/game and/or anything else you would like to demonstrate or display. The booth can be as simple or complex as you would like. We would love to have as many cultures represented as possible.

8th Grade Parent Night: Gearing Up for High School: 8th Grade Families! Our counselors will be hosting a virtual “Gearing up for High School Night” on April 6th at 6 PM. Counselors will be giving a brief overview of high school requirements, credits and GPA, as well as WCHS structures like Flex Blocks! If you are unable to attend, the information can also be found on the counseling website.

BASE – Summer Planning: We are in the beginning stages of planning for BASE over summer break and we need your input. Please CLICK HERE to let us know if the student(s) in your family would attend a BASE summer camp. If enough families are interested, we’ll send registration information in the coming weeks.

Reporting COVID-19 Positive Tests and Exposure: If your student has tested positive to COVID-19, or has been exposed to someone who tested positive off campus, please CLICK HERE to complete this form and our contact tracing team will follow up. 

Walking and Bike to School Volunteers  Needed: We are in need of adult volunteers to join our daily Walking School Bus and scan student cards on campus. Can you walk to school with your student and other Explorers 1-5 mornings a week? Can you scan student cards near the Maybrook gate in the mornings? It is a fantastic way to start the day and volunteer with students. Please email [email protected] to get started.

COVID Symptoms: If your student has any COVID-19 symptoms, please keep them home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. Symptoms include: Fever over 100.4, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, muscle/body aches, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell. If your student has any of those symptoms, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours and email [email protected] to report their absence.

Papa Murphy’s Fundraiser:  Our next restaurant fundraiser is this Wednesday, April 6th  from 12-8pm at Papa Murphy’s  (2701 Del Paso Road). Order online and type “WAVE” in the notes section or in-person by mentioning WAVE. We will receive 15% back. It’s that easy! 

WAVE Meeting: This month we will be meeting to discuss community events, parent engagement and the 22/23 school year. If you are interested in learning more about WAVE or finding out how to get involved, this is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about our fantastic parent group. Please join us on Tuesday, April 5th at 5:30pm on the Mabry campus under covered dining. We will celebrate our first in person meeting of the year with treats and swag. Kudos: Our Explorer Athletes in Middle and High School have had a great season! Our 6-8th graders have been enjoying volleyball and our High School students are having an amazing season in soccer and volleyball. Thank you to the parent volunteers, coaches, spectators, Mr. O’Con and our amazing athletes!
