Our 8th grade WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) leaders prepared to host 6th Grade Orientation on 8/10. Students practiced leading activities, leading campus tours and the very important skill of making phone calls home to their groups to personally invite them to orientation. We had the best time learning through play and laughter!

Our BASE program was open for staff students during the Professional Development days. They had so much fun making superhero masks, creating All About Me collages, going on a scavenger hunt, and making lava lamps! The BASE team is excited to be open for all students starting August 11th!

As your family looks through the guidebook, please be sure to send questions to [email protected]; we will respond to your email and use your questions to help populate our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section of our Return to School page.

Class Lists and Student Schedules – August 6th: Class lists and student schedules were emailed home on Friday, August 6th. Click HERE to see class lists. Email [email protected] if you did not receive your middle school or high school student schedule.

K-12 Open Campus – Find Your Classroom Event – August 9th: Last year, parents were not able to help students find their classroom, so, we will open the campuses on Monday evening from 5 PM to 8PM, to allow you and your family to walk on campuses, and find your classroom door. This is an optional event, classrooms will be closed, but if you are excited to see campus, we want this option to be available to your family. Visit our K-8 campus at 2680 Mabry Drive 95835.  9th Grade families visit our high school campus at 4400 East Commerce Way 95834.

Virtual Meet the Teacher: Your teacher sent an email on Friday, August 6th to introduce themselves to your family. This email will also invite you to sign up for an optional virtual Meet the Teacher on Tuesday, August 10th. Each teacher’s virtual meet times will stagger so that families with multiple students can attend more than one. Please refer to the Friday email for your students’ teacher to find directions for signing up.

Virtual Coffee Talk: Join us for our first every K-12 Virtual Coffee Talk on Tuesday, August 10th at 6:00 PM. This is a great opportunity to hear from our admin team and WAVE parent leaders, as well as ask questions and give feedback. Click HERE to join the Virtual Coffee Talk. Click HERE to submit celebrations, questions and comments.

Link Crew Orientation: Our 9th grade students will participate in Link Crew Orientation on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 11th. Link Crew is a high school transition program that welcomes freshmen and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their high school experience.  Students will only need to bring a lunch or receive a school lunch on their first day of school.

K-8 Uniform Swap:  The K-8 Uniform Swap will take place Monday, August 9th from 8:30am-8:00pm and Tuesday, August 10th from 8:30am-6:00pm. Tables will be located in the drop-off zone of the Mabry campus and organized by size. Please feel free to drop-off any uniforms in good condition and pick up any uniforms your student can use.

Walking School Bus: Our daily Walking School Bus is back! Beginning Wednesday, August 11th, the Walking School Bus will meet Monday-Friday at Burberry Park . Students can be dropped off between 7:45 and 8am to allow plenty of time to safely walk to our K-8 campus. Not only do families avoid and decrease congestion near campus, but students also earn points to use towards prizes. Please click HERE to learn more about this program. We need volunteers to walk and check students in near our campus entrances. Please email [email protected] to get involved today!

School Dismissal Manager: Our K-8 campus uses a program called School Dismissal Manager to determine how students will be dismissed each day. Parent/Guardian log ins and next steps will be emailed by Tuesday, August 10th.

School Supplies Donations: Each year Westlake Charter School purchases all the school supplies our students will need. You don’t need to go out and purchase anything. To help our school offset these costs, we ask for an optional $25 donation for each student. We promise, with our bulk educational discount, we can get a lot more for your student than they would get for the same price at even the best discount retail store.

Click HERE to make your School Supplies donation today.

Field Lessons  Donations: Each year we schedule our field lessons and ask families to help with the costs through donations. This year, we are working with vendors to schedule field lessons, but we are not going to ask families to donate until we are 100% sure that the field lessons are happening. Donations are non-refundable, so we want to be as certain as we can that our families are getting their money’s worth. We will reach out to families as the school year progresses to update information regarding field lessons.

In case you missed it…

9th Grade Fall Athletics: Conditioning is underway for co-ed Cross Country, Boys Soccer, and Girls Volleyball. It’s not too late to participate. Click HERE to complete the Sports Interest Form. Coaches for Fall Sports will reach out with practice information.

Committee Members Needed: Most WAVE Committees are currently in need of members for the 2021/22 school year. Finding a committee that interests you and works with your schedule is one of the best ways to get involved at Westlake Charter School. Click HERE to take a look at committee descriptions to decide which one is the best fit then send an email to [email protected]  to learn more or get started.

Grade Level Liaisons: Our Grade Level Liaison program is back for the 21/22 school year. We are looking for one or two volunteers from each grade level to communicate with room parents, set up grade level specific events and help facilitate volunteer and donation requests. We currently need volunteers for grades 1, 5,  7 and 8. All volunteers will be contacted within the next week to set up a short, virtual meeting. Please click HERE to sign up.

Kudos: This week we have requested help from volunteers multiple times and the response has been incredible. We appreciate families willing to build new items at the high school campus, join our Walking School Bus, become a grade level liaison and join a committee. Westlake Charter School would not be as successful without this support and involvement. Thank you, families!
