May is Bike Month: Wow, Westlake students have already logged 1,000 trips so far! Every 10 minutes of riding equals 1 trip. The purpose of this challenge is to have fun and create healthy habits but there are leaderboards divided by school and grade if you are looking for some extra competition. Want to join in the fun? Simply create an account at jibe.org and start logging your student’s bike trips today. We hope to see you out on the trails, Explorers!

We enjoyed celebrating our 8th graders during the 8th Grade Pick Up Parade! Families and students drove through to pick up their work, momentos for 8th grade dinner, and their promotion certificate. The energy and joy was felt by the entire community.

Summer Enrichment:  Westlake will keep our Distance Learning website available all summer and we will be adding a Summer Enrichment page to the website.  There will be links to Lexia and Freckle, as well as additional resources, for families to access if they would like to have their students continue with learning over the summer.

BASE Summer Program Survey: Our team continues to monitor guidance from local health partners and develop plans which may lead to BASE opening this summer.  In order to help guide the development of a summer program, we’re asking families who might be interested in attending BASE in June or July to complete this brief survey.

8th Grade Promotion: Our digital 8th Grade Promotion on Wednesday, May 27th at 4:00 PM. Please save the date to witness this important event for our 8th-grade students. We will provide information about how to log into the digital event.

Chromebook Return: Students who are continuing at Westlake for the 2020-2021 school year will have the option to keep their borrowed chromebook to continue optional learning through the summer. We ask that all students who are not returning, including current 8th grade students, return their chromebooks on Thursday, May 28th or Friday, May 29th. Field Day: Our Distance Learning Field Day will launch on Wednesday, May 27th at 9:00 AM. Teacher’s will post the Field Day website on Google Classrooms for you to join in the fun. We hope you picked up your field day bag. The bag included just a couple of materials to support field day. We hope you do the “Hidden Message Relay” and the “Minute to Win it – Cookie Challenge.” On the website there are multiple activities to do. When you click on the activity it will include a video, directions for the activity and materials needed. Some of the videos are made by our amazing 5th grade student leaders! You can choose what activities you would like to do as a family: you can do as many or as few as you would like! Don’t forget to post on social media #WCSVirtualFieldDay.

Each grade level has been assigned a color for the day to show grade-level spirit.
