Celebrations

Our 5th graders have had an incredible experience learning bike safety with Project Ride Smart. Some students even learned how to ride a bike for the first time! Thank you to Mrs. Hubbard, Mrs. Homer, Ms. Duenas, and Mrs. Leggett for bringing this incredible program to WCS!

Our kindergarten Explorers did book reports this week where they transformed a pumpkin into the main character of their book! Students were excited to share their stories and pumpkin creations. Thank you Ms. Riehl, Mrs. Rice, Mrs. Patel, Ms. Klumb, and Mrs. Block for this #JoyfulLearning opportunity!

PM Walking School Bus – Closed for the Winter: October 31st was our last PM Walking School Bus until after winter. Please update your student’s School Dismissal Manager to reflect how your student will be getting home. The morning walking school bus will continue every day, rain or shine. Please join us at Burberry Park at 7:50 AM and begin walking promptly at 8:00 AM.

Championship Games: Our Volleyball and Football Explorer athletes will be competing in the championship games next week! Come out and support our Explorer athletes from 3:30 PM to 4:15 PM on November 4th, 5th, 7th & 8th!

Veterans Day/BASE CLOSED: The Westlake Charter Campus and BASE will be closed on Monday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day.

Spirit Day– Decades Day: Friday, November 15th is Decades Day! Enjoy a blast from the past and dress up in clothes from a past decade!  

  1. Clothes must be free of inappropriate wording and images
  2. All shirts must have sleeves, no sleeveless shirts
  3. All clothing must be free of rips and tears
  4. All clothing must fit properly. Pants around the natural waist, tops completely covering the torso area
  5. No dangerous accessories

Conference Week: Conference week is November 18th through the 22nd. Remember, November 18th-22nd will be early dismissal for all grades to allow for time to meet with each of our families – Kindergarten will dismiss at 1:00 PM and 1st-8th grade will dismiss at 1:30 PM. Advisory Fishbowl Parent Sign Up: Please join us as our 6th-8th grade students hold a discussion. On November 14th from 8:15 AM – 8:57 AM, you will join a small group of 6th-8th grade students and a staff member and engage in a guided conversation. Click HERE to sign up to be a part of this event.

Whole School Morning Meeting: Whole School Morning meeting: Families are welcome to join us for our end of trimester whole school morning meeting! At the whole school morning meeting, celebrate students and build community in the same way we do in class each day.

Missoula Children’s Theater Company – It’s Not Too Late to Sign Up!: Tuesday, November 12th at 3:30 PM all students are welcome to audition for Missoula Theater Company’s production of The Tortoise versus the Hare. Missoula Performance: You’re invited to see Westlake Charter students put on a performance of The Tortoise Versus the Hare on Saturday, November 16th at 3:00 PM and 5:30 PM. The performance will be approximately one hour. Tickets are available at the door: cost is $1 or one canned food item per ticket. All proceeds will go to Joey’s Food Locker.

Family Science Night: Please join us on Wednesday, November 6th at 5:30pm for a fun and interactive Sierra Nevada Journeys Family Science Night. The first half of the event will be full of a dozen different hands on STEM stations for all ages to enjoy. Beginning at 6:15pm, families break up into teams for a friendly design challenge with the goal of building the tallest tower. What an incredible opportunity to experience hands on learning with the entire family!

WAVE Meeting: Our monthly WAVE meeting is coming up on Thursday, November 7th. We will meet in the Media Center (Library) at 6:30pm to discuss upcoming events, hear from Mrs. Battin and learn about ways to get involved this school year. We have a lot of exciting events coming up and would love to hear your ideas. It is also a fantastic opportunity to meet other Explorer families and learn more about WAVE.

Logging Volunteer Hours: Families have volunteered thousands of hours so far this school year which greatly benefits our students. Please take a couple minutes to log every hour spent supporting our students and helping build community including Fall Festival, field lessons, classroom help, home prep, meeting attendance and so much more. Kudos: Thank you to every person who spent an hour last Friday drinking coffee and chatting about what is currently happening around campus at Coffee Talk. It is always a great time to hear from our Administration, meet other parents, ask questions and celebrate all of the incredible things our students are experiencing.
