Chili Cook Off: Our 6th Annual Chili Cook Off is right around the corner!  Thursday, September 26th, our classes will be going head to head for the title of “Westlake’s Greatest Chili”.  For only $5 you can come and taste all the chili you want and place your vote for the best! Please come and support our school on this evening!  All community and family members are encouraged to attend. Please invite anyone you know who might want to attend this event.

  • Volunteers: We are still in need of parent helpers!  Earn parent hours for your time and donations.  Please check this link to sign up to help. Student can also earn community service hours.
  • Set up: Please arrive at 5pm on September 26th and check in with your advisory teacher for where to help.
  • Clean up: 7:30-8pm
  • Servers: 30 minute serving sessions at your station to help deliver tasty chili to customers and earn votes! Students can earn community service hours!
  • Chili Makers: Please bring your chili to your advisory teacher, plug it into a crock pot to keep warm.  Please bring chili no later than 5pm.
  • Supplies for Success: Please check the Google Sheet (linked above) to let us know how you can help out our team! PLEASE MAKE SURE TO LABEL ANYTHING YOU SEND IN SO WE CAN RETURN IT TO YOU!

NUSD Board Candidates Forum: A Natomas USD Board Candidate Forum will be held at 4600 Blackrock Drive, 95835, on September 25, from 6:30-8:00pm.  This is an opportunity to hear from NUSD Board Candidates, and will feature questions posed by local charter school students.  Click HERE for more information.

WCS Athletics: What are you doing next Thursday afternoon, Explorer Families? Come out to see the first athletics games of the season! Flag football and volleyball players will both be suited up, ready to play at 3:30.

  • Spectators:Your student may stay for the game if you update School Dismissal Manager to say “AS Live: Spectator” and include how your student is getting home at 4:15, after the game. For example, “AS Live: Spectator, walking home after” or “AS Live: Spectator, parent pick up after”.
  • Core Values: Please remember to observe our Core Values during WCS Athletics games. Our coaches are volunteers, our athletes have a growth mindset – let’s cheer them on with respect. 
Additional After-school Enrichment: Our community knows how amazing our Explorers are, and more vendors want to teach after-school enrichment classes! Click HERE for new classes that are being offered starting after October break.
After-School Live: Click HERE to see what we’re offering and to put your student on the interest list.Campus is already buzzing after school with enrichment and athletics, and there’s still more to come! After-School Live’s tuition-free clubs are coming this October for the fall session. Clubs meet once a week for four weeks, right after school. Fall Break: School will be closed Monday, October 1st through Friday, October 5th for Fall Break. BASE will be open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM the entire week.

Lost and Found: Our lost and found is overflowing with jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles and more! Please check for any missing items by Friday, September 28th. All unclaimed items will be donated over Fall Break.

Progress Reports:  Progress Reports will come home with your child on Friday, September 28th.  Please take the time to review this document and celebrate your student’s growth this trimester.  If you have any questions regarding your student’s progress please reach out to your child’s teacher.

2018 Fall Festival: Our 8th Annual Fall Festival is coming up on Saturday, October 20th so save the date! It’s a fun community event for all ages with carnival style games, a photo booth, treat walk, a haunted house and the ever popular silent auction baskets where 100% of the auction proceeds go directly to the classrooms! 

Look for a flyer with more information in your student’s blue folder this coming Friday! You can sign up to donate treats for the treat walk, and/or donate/lend supplies. A link for volunteer sign-ups will be available in the next WAVE Weekly. We are also looking for sponsors for the event and a sponsorship packet is available HERE  .

Olympic Triathlon Committee: The Olympic Triathlon is our largest fundraiser of the year and we are looking for volunteers to help us make it the most successful one ever. The event is quickly approaching and we need help with ideas, planning and execution. Please contact Amber Hustead at [email protected] to learn more or join the OT committee. We cannot do it without your help!

Kudos: Bingo Night was an enormous success and we couldn’t have don’t it without the families who arrived early to set up, handed out snacks during the games and cleaned up in record time after the event. These incredible community events wouldn’t be possible without volunteers like you. Thank you!
