Announcements

Meet the Teacher: Class lists will be posted online Tuesday, August 7th. We are excited to welcome our families to campus for Meet the Teacher on Tuesday, August 7th from 12-2PM. During this time, students will be able to meet their new teacher and see their new classroom. Parents will receive information regarding arrival and dismissal, including their Car Line Pick Up Placards

First day of School: The first day of school for the 2018-19 school year is Wednesday, August 8th. Kindergarten through 5th grade start at 8:30 AM on the blacktop, while 6th-8th grade students will report to their advisory classes at 8:15 AM. Kindergarten students will dismiss at 11:30 AM, while 1st-8th grade students will dismiss at 1:30 PM.

Dismissal Updates: You will receive a dismissal packet at Meet the Teacher, but we wanted to update you on one important change. Being scanned out of campus using the Trip Scanner cards will be OPTIONAL this year. If families would like their student to scan the Trip Scanner card, there will be a kiosk at the covered dining area. The trip scanner card will notify parents that their student was signed out.

Kindergarten Conferences: Our kindergarteners will dismiss at 11:30 AM on August 8th, 9th, and 10th so that families can attend conferences. Click HERE to register for your conference time. Click HERE for directions.

School Supplies: Westlake Charter School provides all supplies needed for students to learn throughout the day. The only supplies your student will need you to provide is an empty backpack, an optional lunch box, and an optional water bottle. We purchase all pencils, paper, scissors, crayons, paint, etc. for students to use in class. We do ask families to donate $25 to offset the cost of the school supplies. You will be able to make those contributions on an exciting new website that will launch in the first week of school.

Morning Time Line: Please observe the following times when dropping students off in the mornings:

  • 7:00-7:50 AM – All students must be checked into BASE. Click HERE to register.
  • 7:50-8:15 AM – Breakfast is available in the cafeteria, or students can play on the blacktop

Sharing some sad news: It is with extreme sadness that we wanted to inform our community that William Yang passed away this summer. Mr. Yang joined our Westlake family last year as an Instructional Aide within our PE department. We have been in close contact with Mr. Yang’s family, and have learned that his services will not be held locally. Our school psychologists are available to support our students and staff with this loss.

Volunteerism: As you know, volunteerism and parental involvement are a huge part of what makes Westlake Charter special. We ask our families to participate and volunteer a minimum of 30 hours each school year. We know your time is precious. Not only does your involvement in your child’s education lead to better grades, higher test scores and raising their self-esteem, but it connects YOU to our school community and all the great things that are happening here.

We have many exciting opportunities for you to get involved, meet other parents and make a difference in our amazing community. We are currently looking for individuals and teams to lead various events throughout the year and help us meet our fundraising goals!

Spirit Store: The Westlake Charter Spirit Store is open! We have a wide variety of items available including t-shirts, polos, outerwear and bags. Just Click HERE to browse our selection of WCS gear and place your order today. The deadline to submit an order is August 20th at noon and items are scheduled to arrive in mid-September. Don’t delay, the next order won’t be made until Winter 2019.

WAVE Calendar of Events: WAVE has a full calendar of events planned for the upcoming school year and we are excited to share it with you. Please Click HERE to access the full schedule of events, meetings, coffee talks and more. Many events are still in need of leads and volunteers so please contact Amber Hustead, WAVE President, at [email protected] for more information or to start getting involved today. These incredible events cannot happen without your support!

Facebook Parents Group: Did you know that WAVE has a Facebook page specifically for families to connect and communicate regarding school and community events? If you haven’t already, please be sure to join the group by Clicking HERE. Just a reminder, the page is not for communicating with WCS Administration or staff.
