Barnes & Noble Bookfair: Westlake’s annual Barnes & Noble Bookfair is coming the weekend of December 15th – 17th.  The bookfair will kickoff with Family Night on December 15th from 5:30 – 7:30 at Barnes & Noble.  There will be crafts, staff members reading books, and staff members gift wrapping on the 15th.  Westlake Is seeking parent volunteers to host the gift wrapping table on December 16th and 17th.  Click HERE if you would like to volunteer and support this annual bookfair.

The Kylee Lillich Charitable Giving Tree: At the end of each year The Kylee Lillich Charitable Giving Tree organizes their biggest event, The Holiday Giving Tree. Referrals for eligible children and their gift wishes come to us directly from hospital nurses, doctors, social workers, teachers, principals and school nurses in the Sacramento and Woodland areas. Those gift wishes are then placed as ornaments on holiday trees placed in schools, businesses and churches. Generous souls then take ornaments from the tree and fulfil  the wishes as listed. All gifts are then picked up at the various locations. The gifts are matched and sorted by child, families and location. The next day all gifts are delivered to the children. To date, we’ve helped over 8000 kids. Click HERE for their informational flier.

After School LIVE: The first session of LIVE, Westlake’s after-school club program, was a huge success! Our next session will run from January 22–March 9. Please Click HERE to sign-up to lead a club and provide our Explorers with joyful learning experiences! The volunteer information flier has more information about what it means to lead a club. Olympic Triathlon Event Day: November 30th was a day full of celebration beginning with the parade of flags and opening ceremonies with our entire student body on the blacktop. What a spectacular sight! For the next 6 hours the school was full of laughter, excitement and creativity as students explored the obstacle course, Spanish games and chalk art activity. This day would not have been possible without the time of support of our family volunteers, teachers and staff. We are so thankful for our event leaders who worked for weeks to ensure this day was as enjoyable and successful as possible. Thank you to Mrs. Eick, Mrs. Callau, Mrs. Grimaldi, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. Woodward, Nancy Fairbanks, Ona Saras, Gina Brookman, Aileen Go Policarpio and Elena Thrower. Thank you to everyone who volunteered on this special day of learning!

A huge part of the Olympic Triathlon is fundraising. The feedback and results from our new online donation site were overwhelmingly positive and we were excited to hear it made fundraising easier for families. The early numbers are in and we are so proud of our amazing community! We have raised over $53,000 and the number is still rising as we receive a few last minute donations. We will spend the next few weeks celebrating our top fundraisers and holding class parties. We are incredibly thankful for every student who contributed to the Olympic Triathlon over the past month. The event day and fundraiser were a huge success and our WCS community should be proud!
