A huge thank you to our Leadership Elective for planning the first spirit day of the year, Superhero Day! They did a great job planning the event from start to finish! Our next spirit day is Career Day on Friday, October 27.
The Hurricane Harvey donation drive was an illustration of what happens when our school and community collaborate! From Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Sanchez championing the idea, to Home Depot donating boxes, to the team who stayed late packing the boxes. Special shout out to parent Anthony Najera and Miss. Riehl’s family’s company, Capitol Barricade, in getting the boxes to Houston.
8th Grade scientists have been working on using insulation material to retain heat in a container. Students were collaborating on failed attempts and problem solving how to adjust their prototype. These explorers engaged in high level science and problem solving conversations!

Chili Cook Off: Come and test your chili judging skills at 6pm on September 20th at Westlake Charter’s 5th Annual Chili Cookoff! We are so excited for our entire campus to take part in this tasty event!
6th-8th Grade: Team up with your advisory teacher to take on other classes head to head for the best chili at our Chili Cook Off! We are asking for help with expert chili chefs, decorators, and servers! Here is the sign-up sheet to volunteer or donate for the event.
Kinder-5th Grade: This year we are inviting our Kindergarten through fifth-grade families to join the event by contributing dessert and drink donations. We would love to see at least 5 desserts and 5 drinks donated per grade level. Desserts are best donated in individual wrappings (i.e. brownies versus a whole cake). Drinks are best as 2 liters or 12 oz cans. Click here to sign up.
Field Lessons Donations: Each year our grade-level teams plan exciting field lesson adventures for our Explorers. If you would like to make a donation to help offset some of the costs of leading our students on these field lessons, please click here. October Break: There will be no school, and we will be closing our office from Monday, October 9 through Friday, October 13th for Fall Break. We typically try to keep some office hours during breaks, however, this team worked hard all summer to open this new campus and we are asking everyone to take the week off. BASE will be open from 7am to 6pm during Fall Break.
