Olympic Triathlon: The Olympic Triathlon is a long standing tradition here at Westlake Charter School. In the beginning, our founders dreamed of a school that offered more for our students: Spanish, Art, Physical Education program, an international focus and teachers who masterfully designed curriculum to meet the personalized needs of every learner. The Olympic Triathlon helps our school to fund these dreams into reality. Our specialty programs, personalization through the use of cutting edge technology, and amazing community are all converging on our brand new campus in less than one year! This year, the proceeds raised from the Olympic Triathlon will go toward a special dream list item for our new facility, Water Bottle Filling Stations! Check your student’s backpack this week for a detailed packet.

Red Ribbon week: During the week of October 24-28, Westlake staff and students will be engaging in classroom and recess activities to support awareness of substance abuse and prevention.  Friday, October 28th will end the week with a “Dress for Success” spirit day where students can dress up with their future careers in mind.

Love and Logic: The Love and Logic parenting series kicks off this Tuesday, October 25th at 6pm at our Del Paso campus. This five-session workshop will help work through areas all parents struggle with. You will walk out of this series with the tools you need to be an empowered parent and you will be able to avoid yelling ,threatening and feeling like nothing is working!  Click HERE for information on signing up and dates and times for the workshop.  BASE will be offered for all Westlake Students. Parking Lot Safety: Families, we know that school zones during drop off and dismissal times can be frustrating, but we ask that you please obey all traffic laws and drive with the utmost care. Please do not park in handicap spaces without a handicap placard – we have families who need to access those spaces.  Please do not park in any areas of the parking lot that are painted with stripes – they are not parking spaces and impact safety when cars are parked there.

Math Monday: Please check here each week for the link to Math Monday. Come out to the lineup on Monday mornings to celebrate math with us.

Conferences:  Conference week is coming up. We are excited to see 100% of our families attending conferences during conference week. Conferences are a time to celebrate your student’s growth and to set goals for the trimester ahead.  Families will be able to access the Canyon Creek online scheduler starting Monday 10/24.  The first class with 100% of families signed up will receive a pizza party for the students and the teacher will receive a Gift Card to purchase classroom supplies.

Conferences:  End of the trimester conferences are quickly approaching!  Conferences will be held the week of November 14th-18th.  This year, students in 6th-8th grade will meet with their advisory teacher during conferences.  We are shooting for 100% participation during conferences.  Please sign up for your conference time by going to Canyon Creek, our online scheduler, by clicking this link or going directly to our school website. If you would like to meet with any other teacher besides your advisory teacher, please email your advisory teacher directly and they will work with you to coordinate with your child’s other teacher to attend part of your conference.  You should plan to attend the conference with your student.  A portion of the conference will be led by your student.  They will be preparing for the student-led part of their conference during advisory/homeroom classes.  We look forward to meeting with all families to celebrate your student’s growth this trimester.

Buying and Selling Items:  We wanted to remind students that there is no buying and selling of any items on campus.

Digital Citizenship:  This month we are talking about the core value of excellence and how we can show that digitally.  Common Sense Media is a great resource for families to use to talk to their student about being digital citizen.  Check out the section on cyberbullying linked here.
